Versatile multimedia convertible laptop with some major power

The ASUS Q551LN is a stylish 15 inch 2-in-1 laptop that sports some impressive specs in a body less than 1 inch thick and weighing in at just 5.1lbs. So far, the Q551 is a best buy exclusive, I have the Q551LN-BBI706, and here are the specs:

GPU: Nvidia GeFore GT 840M 2GB Dedicated/Intel HD4400 Switchable Graphics
RAM: 8GB DDR3-12800 RAM (4GB Soldered)

Case
The case is entirely aluminum, and has a black brushed finish. With the case having a brushed finish, it will attract fingerprints very easily. Cleaning can be done with a microfiber cloth and alcohol/Windex. On the top inside edge, there is a chauffeured silver band that helps the edge not be as sharp. On the back of the display, there is a silver Asus logo, which glows white when the laptop is on. The bottom of the laptop is completely flat with only 4 rubber feet. These feet are a little higher than others, but it is to keep the screen in the proper position while in tablet mode. The back plate can be taken off for direct access to all of the insides. Ventilation slots can only be found in the groove between the screen hinge and the body.

Has almost everything you could ask for in a laptop

The Labtop has almost everything you could ask for. I was a little reluctant to order a refurbished computer. I contacting Asus before I ordered and was told that I could call them with the serial number and they could give me the history of the computer, I decided to order. Received fast and in the condition that was promised. The HD screen is beautiful and the performance is good. I went ahead and installed a Samsung 850 EVO ssd and it cold boots in 10 seconds right now. Of course I have one little complaint, I replaced another Asus laptop and I am disappointed that the SD card slot does not encase the complete card, it sticks out the side more than half the card. The problem is that I did not check this and bought a 128 GB card to use as a backup drive but it can not be kept in the computer like my old computer.

I bought this laptop for my daughter. A few days after the 90 day warranty ran out the display turned a pink tint and the Bluray player stopped working. I tried contacting KLAMP Electronics, the seller, and they did nothing for me. I did purchase it with my Discover card and they should cover it for double the manufacture's warranty (6 months) so I'm hoping to get it fixed using this Discover benefit.

Will not buy refurbished again

I hope this review will help anyone looking to buy this computer. If you want this brand a model, buy it new. I bought this under the impression that it would work like new. Long story short, it didn't. I had hardware problems and internal bugs that came with the computer. Computer would wake up while the lid was closed and even shut down. I also had to reinstall many drivers that were supposed to be up to date. Asus customer service will do nothing to help you. Only reason it gets two stars is because when it did work (rare occasion), it worked well. Will never buy certified refurbished again

Problems with the touchscreen

I have an Asus tablet/netbook and know this is an extremely reputable company and this model has excellent reviews. However, I had to return this laptop as it had some unique glitches. The greatest issue was that the screen had some issues...it lost its touch ability off and on while the screen "danced." As this happened over the first several days I had the computer, I was encouraged by computer industry friends to return it. Thankfully, Amazon has such an accommodating return policy, that they made it easy. I've bought other items certified refurbished and they have been excellent products, but, sadly, this one wasn't one of them.

SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW! Don't waste your money!

AVOID! I've had 2 of these, and both ended up with the same problem: screens that develop an AWFUL pink or green tint to them, and hold long lasting (20 minutes or more) afterimages. Serious quality control problems, or a manufacturer who just doesn't care. On the first computer, it was a transient problem, coming and going at random. On the second, it happened just a little more than 30 days after arrival, and just won't go away.

Don't be afraid -This is a great convertible laptop

This convertible has it all. I looked and researched and nobody came close to these specs. I have bought many brands of laptops, HP, Toshiba, Gateway, Dell, Sony but have had the best service from ASUS products. They are so much better quality that you can't begin to compare on that stat alone. I was looking for 15.6 - convertible - AC wifi - intel I-7 - 8GBram - 1TB hard drive - on board optical drive(almost impossible to find) and High Quality(1920 by 1080) graphics. This was the only unit that met all the criteria and was close to my price range. I almost gave up the optical drive for a lighter unit with 5th gen (broadwell) chip but so far I'm glad I got this unit. I have had better than average luck with reconditioned equipment. Being a small bussiness owner gave me many chances to purchase electronics and electric tools.
