Best Windows 8.1 tablet with lots of storage for the money.

After reading the reviews I had some trepidations that I might have trouble if I bought the T100 above.I was very pleased to find that it worked impeccably with absolutely no problems. I have now had the Asus about 3 1/2 weeks. It is a great tablet for the money, especially since it has the 500GB hard drive. I added a 64GB micro SD card. This is helpful when you wish to use the tablet detached from the keyboard as you may place programs and data on the SD card. You will then not run out of usuable storage space with the keyboard with hard drive not attached. You should consider purchasing the following accessories to augment the use of this tablet: External USB DVD burner, standard USB 3.0 hub with 3 or 4 USB ports for connection to keyboard USB 3.0 port, micro USB 2.0 to USB 2.0 hub with 3 or 4 standard ports and a charging port to use on tablet USB 2.0 connection, pouch case to carry the TBook, and a screen protector. The USB 3.0 hub is a necessity if you use a mouse like I do and wish to use the external DVD drive and/or a USB flash drive at the same time. In order not to run out of tablet storage space, I have placed as much data and programs (that I do not need when I use it as a tablet without the keyboard) as possible on the hard drive. Unless you buy a Microsoft Surface, at a much higher price, the T100 with the 500GB hard drive is the way to go. I may add in passing that Windows apps still leave a lot to be desired and do not come close to Android or IOS apps in availability or quality, but you can run all your Windows programs on this tablet computer.I also recommend that if you liked the Windows 7 or XP desktop that you download and install Classic Shell which will boot you up in a Windows desktop and make it a lot easier to use Windows 8.1.Read more ›

Tolerate what you have, save your money, and buy something better THAT LASTS!

This is a fantastic, albeit extremely fragile computer for the 3 months that it will work well. I am an engineering student, so Matlab, Creo, Visual Studio - they all have to work for me, and run relatively quickly. I haven't tried Creo or Visual Studio yet although VS installed, but Matlab (2014a, at least) runs like a dream. I'm very happy with the processing speed for this price. You will probably need to keep your computer plugged in if you're running these power hogs, because I've literally never gotten the battery life specified. It can also run programs concurrently (e.g., Matlab, PowerPoint, Excel, and light Chrome browsing), so don't worry about that.

However, after 2-3 months of bliss, prepare for rage. I would excuse this for me as having a defective computer, but I've seen similar posts from other users. If you unplug your computer and begin using it, somewhere under 70% battery life, you're guaranteed to get a scrambled screen. It's like a blue screen, but instead, the screen is scrambled. You have now lost all your unsaved work. You might think you're the ctrl+s master, but this computer will prove you wrong. It's lost now. Accept that you must start over. Keep your charger with you, because you can't turn it back on unless you plug in the charger. Hold down the power button until the white camera light flashes. But, congratulations! You now have a desktop computer because the longer you keep it, the more it will scramble! But, it will scramble less if you leave it plugged in. Literally, leave it on the desk and try not to take it places. Try not to plug in or unplug anything! If you jarr it, etc. (i.e., place it on a desk softly to show your boss something), scrambled screen! Now you have to plug it in and take the 5-10 minutes it takes to restart.Read more ›

Meets my expectations

Not bad, Great value
Pros: Comes with Microsoft Office (1 year), handles applications fairly well, small, portable, tablet comes in handy sometimes, expandable storage via micro sd, hard drive version inside keyboard dock is a must have, battery life is pretty good.

Cons: Minor bugs w/ touchscreen (won't work after I close the lid) and touch pad, can't handle powerful applications as well, seems a little top heavy (would like to see the keyboard part hold a little more weight or tablet be a little lighter). 32gb version is a little low (better off w/ hdd dock or 64gb version).

Recommendation: definitely for college students, or people who just need the portability and use small applications like Microsoft word, excel, etc. 32gb is a little on the low side for the tablet, either get one with a hard drive in the dock, have extra micro sd's on hand, or get the 64gb version.

1) Go to "Device Manager"---> Expand "Human Interface Devices"---> The touch screen is a "USB Input Device" right click it and go to properties------> "Power Management"----> Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". 2) Then go to "Power Options"---> "Choose what closing the lid does"---> make sure all settings are set to sleep. You may need to Restart or Sign out after this process.
