This baby runs cool under pressure!

As soon as I got my hands on this puppy I decided I had to test it for real. I could complain about how I spent all afternoon getting it up and going because it updated a ton of things and downloaded Windows 10. During this whole process I couldn't access webpages, Skype nor anything. However, once this was done, after a couple of restarts and Windows 10 being fully installed, the time to test it for real came and oh am I satisfied. I launched several applications at the same time: Skype, Steam, an antivirus (not a fan of McAfee even though it comes for free, so I brushed it off and opted for another one) and Google Chrome. Now get yourself an idea of what it took to make this guy get a bit slow: Steam was downloading games from my library, I was copying other games from a flash drive on to the computer, same thing with some heavy HD movies from another flash drive, and my whole library of music from yet another flash drive, all this while the antivirus performed a thorough scanning, a software (Manga Studio 5) installed and here I was watching YouTube at full HD with barely any lag and the laptop itself as cool as if it had just been taken out of a fridge. The only other laptop that performed as nicely as that was an Alienware 14 I had before, but that one was on fire, unlike this one, and its price was 3 times as much.

Summary: This puppy knows how to do its job and, unlike its new owner, it really works well under pressure. For the price this is a bargain! I would expect this level of performance from something over $1,200 at least! I'm thoroughly satisfied, but now let's see how much this opinion lasts. With my past experience with Asus, I got a decent degree of faith.Read more ›

I have had it a week and installed the free upgrade to Windows10. I liked it with Windows8.1, but it really rocks now. Windows 10 is optimized for this type of laptop. I am in process of reinstalling my games and so far it is doing just awesome. I have been getting to know it the last few days and I am pleased as punch. Very well made and very intuitive to use. I needed a bit more than the ones that are a tablet with a keyboard dock. This fits my needs quite well and its several pounds lighter than my HP that barely lasted past its warranty period. Better processor and graphics card for 200 more than I paid for the HP 26 months ago. I love the touchscreen and awesome touchpad as I don't need an external mouse with it. Oh I will get one for mouse controlled games. but otherwise its really not necessary for most tasks. I understand from my son in law that ASUS has a very good track record as far as being worth the money and being well manufactured and designed He works at Best Buy. However, I got a better deal on Amazon. He couldn't get it for less at work and ship it to me. We discussed the pros and cons of various models after deciding on an ASUS. I showed him this one I stumbled upon searching out Amazon's offerings. He was like "Yeah, that would fit you good!" "Get the Nvidia graphics and terabyte drive one!" I replied that was the plan. I would not be surprised if one gets ordered and winds up in his house. I am in my 50's and like some of the less intensive games. I like some RPG's. Some single player offline and some online MMORG's too. The only con with this laptop is no optical drive. How much do you use one anyhow? Me....not that often. Amazon has the ASUS external optical drive fairly cheap.Read more ›

Bad Choice

So it seemed to be a good laptop. It was nice, the screen was good quality and the keyboard was nice. After a little bit of use the flipbook feature stopped working. Whenever you either put it in tablet mode or in tent mode the keyboard and the mousepad were still active.I updated all of the drivers and it did not fix anything. Tried upgrading to windows 10 and it still didn't work.I would wait to buy this laptop until ASUS can fix this issue.
