Reliable Bargain Laptop That Doesn't Sacrifice Features

The reason why I saw the "Be the first to rate this item" notice was because I just got an email from the person that I bought it for two months ago, asking me for a link to it so that she can use it to buy another unit for a friend of hers.

Prior to ordering it, I spent a couple of hours looking over the alternatives in the $250-$300 price range, and ended up choosing this one. As the tech director for various school districts over the past 30 years, I've ordered hundreds of laptops, with price and reliability being my main considerations. This has been a moving target over the years, and as of 2015, Asus is my current preferred manufacturer. Pcmag.com's annual "User Satisfaction Survey" also rates them very highly -- trailing Apple, but you could buy three of these for a lower cost than just one low-end Macbook.

At the time that I ordered it, it was $23 cheaper than the $270 that it's selling for right now. Still a good deal, though, and the person that's been using it (who is also quite tech-savvy) was very impressed with the bang-for-the-buck.

Note: IMHO, the worst feature is that it has only two USB ports, rather than three.
