What I received: Laptop and generic charger (works awesome)

Initial impression upon opening box: The laptop had clearly been cleaned professionally. But it also showed clear signs of use but that's to be expected from a refurbished product. The silver trim around the edge was worn off in a couple places. The only thing that would be that the laptop is bent near the EC slot. It looks like someone had gotten something stuck and used a screwdriver to pry it out. I personally will never have a use for this slot and I'm sure it still works perfect.

Laptop performance: The keyboard is absolutely amazing and the trackpad is just as good. Windows 7 doesn't really let you adjust the trackpad sensitivity enough and I felt myself moving my finger over the pad several times just to navigate a small portion of the screen. This also wasn't a big deal for me because I planned on installing Linux Mint immediately anyways. It's easy to install and was more user friendly. With Mint, the trackpad is as effective as a wired mouse. My finger can stay on at all times. I liked that the trackpad has a raised surface also. It allows for smooth and controlled movements. The SSD is a Samsung 840 EVO and works just as it should. Screen is nice and not all glossy like some which can cause glare. The charge plugs in at a nice angle in the back so it'll never get bent or get in your way. The i5 processor is also great and is more than enough for what's need. As for ram, YOU CAN PUT AS MUCH AS WINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL(or your OS of choice) CAN HANDLE. The specs provided on the Dell website only reflect what can be purchased with the laptop and not what the laptop can actually handle. This is a sandy bridge motherboard, it's more than capable of extra ram.Read more ›

Got it yesterday and was expecting a used looking computer. Looks brand new all over. No wear on the keys or the body. Did have an old Windows authentication code that was x'd out on the bottom and a new one so assume that indicates it has a new copy. Only complaint so far is the cursor keeps bouncing back while typing causing me to take a lot longer to type than normal since it messes up my text. Apparently a common problem with touchpads with Window 7- and while typing this went back to the mouse settings and unclicked "automatically move cursor to default position" (although that is not what it was doing- and that seems to help. Online forums suggested unclicking "make pointer invisible during typing" but that did not seem to do anything. So I just unclicked about everything. First two lines of this review it jumped around 8 times-- when I went to the 3rd line and changed the mouse settings-- not once. So maybe that problem is solved.
I was surprised how hot the computer gets, and the fan runs quite a bit. I thought with the solid state hard drive that would make the computer run cooler. But have had 10.5 size computers for years and they tend to run hot- guess due to the lack of room in the body. But overall the computer seems to be quite good, is fast and keyboard is great with the curved keys more like a big desktop.

it's well worth the money.

I bought this computer for my mom as a mother's day gift and she loves it! It is a very study laptop and the Windows 7 is the best version for my mom. She uses it several hours a day for watching videos and online shopping and has no problem whatsoever with it! The screen she loves most for her eyes are very comfortable after using it for hours and the battery is very durable so she can carried it all around the house without worrying the outlet. My money is well spend!

fast and awesome, all in one little package

Portable, powerful, expandable, fast and awesome, all in one little
package. Yes, it's a refurb model so it isn't going to look brand new,
but if you're after stylish and shiny computers, you're in the wrong
area. The one I received was more than acceptable in looks, with just
a few scratches on that 2003 silver dell loves to spew all over their
systems. Clean otherwise. If you want a real deal and serious power,
this netbook has it. Can be expanded to 8GB of memory, and supports
virtualization. That's all you really need to know. 2.5Ghz dualcore
with HT is just a bonus. Great storage capacity as well. And the
Broadcom card that comes in it picks up signals for amazing distances.
I'm getting a signal from the store 300 feet away from me with
excellent clarity. No, it isn't going to play the latest and greatest
games, but that isn't what it is designed to do anyway. Should play
small games like minecraft and the like decently, but that is about
it.

Quality machine with great specs and no glaring problems

Quality machine with great specs and no glaring problems. Very well
built. Win 7 Pro activation was quick and painless. The i5-2520m is
2nd gen and runs well with the supplied 4gb ram. HDMI port is unusual
in this price range. USB3 or more eSATA ports can be added through the
ExpressCard expansion slot.

Good CPU for the price
