I have to admit, Dell surprised me....Great Laptop

This Inspiron I'm finding, is quite feature packed for the price. After many hours online researching every laptop except those made by Dell, I went into Best Buy to try the different brands out and get a feel for the different form factors. Still, being a little biased against Dell, I paid no attention to the Dell kiosk until almost the end of my "test drive" and they had one of these. It had everything I was looking for. It felt well built, had a sleek, simple and appealing form factor, was a 2 in 1 design meaning it can be folded all the way over for use as a table or presentation mode with the touch screen. It had the right hardware including 8 gigs of RAM and the latest i5 processor. It doesn't weigh a ton most importantly, came in well under the $800 to $1000 mark that most other computers with these specs were asking. The two front runners for me up to that point were the Asus flip, 13" and the Lenovo Yoga 13". The straw that broke the camels back and pushed me into buying the Dell (aside from price) was the screen. It was no competition with the Asus which only has a 1366x768 display. The Dell being full HD is far superior. The Lenovo actually has a higher resolution display but I did not learn this until after I had purchased the Dell and left the store simply because to my naked eye, the Lenovo displays looked "washed out" by comparison to this Dell Inspiron and I would not have guessed looking at them that they were higher resolution.

Admittedly, my bias against Dell lingered and I still had reservations that I may still have issues or glitches when getting it home and getting it set up, but after a week of use it has been running like a champ.Read more ›

Value for Money and Loving it.

Excellent product, using it for 2 days now, returned a Yoga 2 Pro from Best Buy and bought this Dell after much research. The wireless is very strong and touch is very sensitive, i like the stylus very much. Overall it worth my investment of $600, as i planning to buy a iPad Air with Retina Display, but this works for me and my wife better as it has a huge screen and we love it.

Only drawback which i see and i knew it before buying is that there is a no back camera and it a little bulky compared to iPad, but i am getting a 500 GB HDD with a core i5.

I bought this for a very reasonable price ($460 refurbished) from Amazon Warehouse. It arrived in damaged packaging (as described) but the computer itself looks brand new.

For about a month or so I had been using it with the stock config (500GB HDD, 4GB RAM) and the performance was decent. It probably won't blow you away and surely isn't ultrabook grade by any means but for the price it pleased me, at least. Recently I made a couple of changes, which I had planned when I purchased. I swapped the spinning hard drive for an SSD (Crucial BX100 250GB) and replaced the stock 4GB RAM with an 8GB stick (also Crucial, note: the computer has only one RAM slot which takes DDR3L). Now the performance is fantastic, cold boot takes only a few seconds, all applications are very responsive and I can have as many browser tabs and youtube videos open as I like!
I would definitely recommend this upgrade if you have the chance.

I like the keyboard; it has a nice white backlight and the keys are fairly shallow but typing is still easy and I am finding now, as I type this review, that I can be almost as accurate with key presses as most other laptops I have experienced. You should bear in mind that the keyboard really needs to be this way due to the convertible nature of the laptop. Speaking of, this is a nice feature and can be useful for watching movies or something with the laptop on your lap; flipping the screen around and using it as a viewing device is a pleasure and really enhances the experience compared to viewing over the keyboard as you would on a regular laptop. Also the hinges feel sturdy and like they will last and they keep the screen steady.

I bought this from another store for my wife and so far we liked it. It was really a good balance for the money we wanted to spend and the hardware we got.

Pros: It's fast; not as fast as a SSD laptop but sill enough. Monitor's quality is great. Sound quality is surprisingly well. It's lighter than it looks. Frame's material feels good! Typing with the keyboard is really easy. Touch function works great!

Cons: Sound is not loud enough. The charger is connected from the left side and when you put the laptop on your lap you have to make sure you don't put the pressure on the charger. When it is used as a tablet, the keyboard is on the bottom which is a bit awkward. The trackpad could have been designed better! The stylus that comes with the laptop cannot be used to write on it; you have to buy a pen separately.

In conclusion, I recommend this laptop specially if you can get a good deal. In my experience Dell's laptops are better and more durable than Lenovo's.
