Ordered Dell laptop Sunday, arrived Wednesday via UPS. Outer and inner boxes undamaged. Laptop lit up and ran perfectly while I installed software on Windows 7 Pro already setup at factory (a prime reason for purchase choice). After three days, it's still super fast and responsive. I need the big screens for my word-processing business. Love the new backlit keyboard--no more USB plug-in light.

Even though the lithium ion battery has longer life, I was hoping for and happy to discover an extra battery is also available on this model to allow me to continue work offline when power goes out for extended periods. A serendipity perk.

My older Dell laptop with Windows 7 is 6 years old and still a strong work horse, so it will become backup. So far so good. I'll update this review in a few months.

This is a real nice modern lightweight laptop, for a little money. The only crapware in it is a trial for McAfee, and a MS office trial. Both were easily unloaded in control panel. It is very fast, and it has a lighted keyboard.

Do not buy any of the Dell Inspiron computers, the touch pad will not work properly.

The touch pad that is incorporated into this design is worthless. It has no left and right buttons to click, you have to push down on the corners of the touch pad. I fought with the settings for over a month before I made Dell replace the touch pad after to chat calls. When attempting to left click, it bounces 3 or 4 times regardless of settings. This is a big problem in Outlook. I delete one email and the touch pad deletes 3 or 4 more. You have to turn the tap to click function off or you will select things moving your finger on the pad. In Word, entire sections of a document will move or be deleted if you do not turn the tap to click off. You have to resort to using arrow keys and shift key in Word to select text. Since the left click bounces, when you attempt to place cursor or select text, it selects then immediately unselects your text. Since the right click does not work much better, you will have to use speed keys in Word to do anything. I gave up trying to use Excel.

Dell replaced the touch pad, the tech said he replaced a lot of them for the same reasons. We compared the original touch pad with the replacement and could tell the replacement was a redesign

This is obviously a manufacturing design flaw. I have spent 6 hours with Dell support connected to my computer on two occassions. They went through some worthless processes. The first time, the tech spent an hour or more installing a hardware "fix". It did help the problem, but did not cure it. The fix obviously slowed down the strobe time on the touch pad. The second chat, I told them fix it or refund my money. The tech said no refund because it was over 30 days old, we'll see about that.

Fantastic laptop. This is my fist Dell laptop. I have had it for about a week now and very happy with it. The 17" screen is awesome with great touch response. I knew going in because of it's size the battery life would not be great, and it is not. You can get a few hours with the screen dimmed to the lowest setting, but in full power mode, you will be lucky to get between one or two hours. This is a non issue for me as i only use it at home and it's plugged in most of the time, but if you need something with long battery life, this isn't the laptop for you.

It is big, but not heavy. Keyboard layout is great and having a number pad which this does is a must for me. The only negative thing i can say about this laptop is the touch pad. Coming out of sleep mode it takes a while for the touch pad program to load. Maybe 20 seconds, so not that bad. It works, but any custom settings such as speed wont kick in right away, so I have to deal with a slow cursor until it kicks in. Also it is difficult to double click and drag items such as windows or icons. Some times takes 2 or 3 tries to "grab" something. Perhaps i just have to get used to it or maybe adjust the touch pad settings some more, there are a good number of customization settings for it.

I get a new laptop every 18 months or so when my old one craps out. So i have experience with many manufacturers.over the years. My favorite used to be Toshiba, had quite a few of those. Last one i tried an Asus which was ok but had sound issues. Dell may be my new favorite after owning this one.

Another plus is bloatware was minimal, just had to uninstall a few programs.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quality laptop at a reasonable price.

I was pleasantly surprised at the speed of this computer. I have never owned anything more than a i3 and this just blew me away. I always though my internet was so slow and know I can surf the web a a amazing speed. Love the lighted keyboard. Have enjoyed having a nice computer to work on. Great screen size and great battery life so far, got over 6 hours the other day.

have a desktop computer, an older Alienware Gaming computer. For gaming, no matter the requirement, I can set all the graphics to max. That's the terrific part. But, because I do a lot of web surfing looking at upcoming games, it is a frequent event to get some whopper viruses that passed my virus protection. Lugging that 75lb computer down 15 steps and then out to the truck was a real chore I dreaded; and I had done it many times . Only one thing to do, find a nice quality laptop I could surf the web, check email and write some stories. I knew I wanted a Dell. And a nice big screen, too. I selected this model based upon my needs and reviews. Now, one Reviewer said something about it running really slow. Slow load up, slow to get online, slow to scroll through a webpage. I paid close attention to that comment. Someone else said the keyboard was really loud, nosy.......something. I made a note of that as well. [ I don't like nosy keyboards ] Another person said this laptop had many of junk programs installed. Hmmm, ok. So, fast-forward to me opening my Dell and firing it up I noticed the following : the keyboard is super quiet. The only sound I can hear is my skin touching the keypad. I also noticed the lack of junk programs inside. Sure, there was Skype, which I easily removed with The nifty uninstall program feature. Again, no issue at all. However, the person who said this laptop was slow when it came to loading a webpage, or anything where speed was needed........was100% correct. This laptop is very slow. Going to any webpage, there was the load-up, then when you went to scroll down, there was this super long annoying wait as the laptop caught up with the info the webpage was giving. That, was bad and a deal breaker for me.Read more ›
