Great Performer at a Great Value

After much research, I purchased this laptop because of its amazing specs and value for the price. I have used this laptop for about a week and an very pleased so far. The build is light weight and slim but solid with brush metal cover and frame. Very high quality look and feel. Images on the monitor are HD and crisp and of good quality. The boot time is OK--not great but good. The backlit keys and power saving features are very nice. The battery life is average--maybe 4-5 hours in power saving mode. The performance is excellent--very fast--giving evidence of the amazingly high specs. No trouble with games or Adobe products such as Photoshop 6, etc. Sound is very good. Overall, I am very pleased and would definitely recommend this laptop..

Pros: attractive with a very nice solid build quality, wonderful performance, great specs for the price

Cons: lots of bloatware, no CD-DVD player, track pad OK but not best for gaming, battery cable just a tad short

GO Dell Inspiron 15R!

I have used this laptop for a while already. I feel that it is really awesome and it plays games with no major problems. The touchscreen and the Windows 8 feature is really cool. I have never seen a touchscreen laptop with intel core i7 and windows 8. I didn't buy it from amazon, but I still think you should get it. I got it from MicroCenter. I surely highly recommend this product. If you are bringing it somewhere, I suggest you buy a protective laptop case for it. I wouldn't want it to break if I were you. Anyway, think about it and if you want, buy it. I truly love it and this is the best laptop I ever had!!

Everything great EXCEPT the mouse touchpad. The lack of distinct buttons for clicking versus floating the cursor leads to very frustrating imprecision and failure to register clicks. I had to get a remote mouse, and my wrist is staring to ache, and I really miss an easy to use touchpad.

Satisfied for a short time, however after only 2 months the Bluetooth and touchpad gestures would intermittently stop working. I paid extra to have a technician come to my house to fix it. In the process of doing so, the LCD stopped working. The needed parts were on backorder so Dell told me my options are to wait until the parts arrive in 4 weeks or to receive a factory refurbished replacement. How can I be confident that a factory refurbished unit would be better if this brand new one has problems altrady? I'm currently disputing this with my credit card company. If I could rate 0 stars I would!

Excellent Value!

This is an excellent laptop for the money. Screen is sharp with vivid colors. Backlit keyboard is nice. It does not have a dvd player but haven't missed it. The trade off is a slimmer profile. Transitioning from Windows 7 to Windows 8 was not smooth but hope to get free upgrade to Windows 10 soon. I bought this laptop for the features: 16 gb ram, 1 tb hdd and 64-bit cpu not to mention usb 3.0. I am running in dual-boot mode with ubuntu installed on an external usb hdd (WD Passport 2 tb) that was painfully slow to boot on my old 32-bit hp laptop with usb 2.0. Audio is excellent. After nearly a month, there is no annoying feature in this laptop that I have found nor has there been any operational problem. I purchased the 3 year service contract just in case...btw 2-day free Prime delivery was icing on the cake.
