Might be one of the best inexpensive gifts. Just bought it for my son and I don't even have to worry about him breaking it. :)

Some information:
No CD/DVD drive - even thought the picture shows it. Need to buy the more expensive version.
No ethernet port just Wifi 802.11 b/g/n
2x USB ports
Webcam
Card Reader port
Upgradable RAM 1333MHz DDR3L

Pros
- Affordable
- Fast for regular stuff, like browsing the internet and writing up documents.
- Windows 8.1

Cons
- It's a little on the heavier side with 5 lbs.
- and a little bulky

I'd also highly recommend getting one of the Amazon 15" sleeves to protect it from drops and scratches.

I really like this computer - it does indeed have quad core Pentium processors and every other feature as listed. It runs fairly well, and i'll be looking into how I can disable the pesky McAffee spams.

ONE THING ABOUT UPGRADING THE RAM: I purchased a second 4GB ram at the same time I completed this order, thinking I could insert it along with the existing 4GB (and effectively have a Pentium Quad Core processor with 8GB of RAM and 500GB hard drive for $300 total dollars). Despite the YouTube videos I've found on replacing the RAM in "this model", I was shocked to see only one RAM slot. PLEASE BEWARE - if you want to upgrade the ram, you need to buy 8GB or larger - as again - there is only one RAM slot (very easy to get to, though!).

OVERALL - very impressed....lots of neat features, quick computing speed, average surfing speed, and Windows 8 really is pretty easy to get used to (and I think my wife is going to love it).

I bought this for a cheap windows 7 computer. If you want to install windows 7 you must install latest Bios from dells web site. Also for me I had to run the diagnostic to get it to see my external dvd. I plan to buy a 8 gig stick and test that out later this week. To get a quad core with 4 gigs for $250 is hell of a deal. Dell also has all the windows 7 drivers on there web site.

Not big issue but this is a Wifi only laptop but does have hdmi so that makes it little more worth it.

Tested 11/28/2014 8 Gigs stick of F3-1600C9S-8GRSL Works perfect. System is running it right now with no issues.

So far it's done it's job, the only thing holding me back from giving it a 5 star is the clicking noise it makes when you're using the mouse pad. It's a loud noise that can aggravate after a while. The rest of the computer seems to run smoothly. No issues yet. Pleased with the affordable price.

Well, where do we plan to start?

I guess I'll start with the Processor

I'm sure some of you are looking at this laptop for the processor. The laptop does indeed have a quad-core processor and it's definitely noticeable. If you're looking for something for multitasking, please get this laptop. In high performance mode, it performs flawlessly as it should, in balanced mode it works good, but in power-saver mode, it performs like a low end dual core processor. Light video editing, Photoshop, Adobe collection, and light games work perfectly fine on this computer due to the newer processor Dell decided to put in this computer.

Hard-Drive

The hard drive is slow. It isn't a 7200RPM HDD instead it's 5400RPM meaning that it will be slower at writing files so here is something I recommend.

(A MUST if you appreciate speed)
Upgrade to a SSD and you'll have a laptop that will be up there with other, more expensive laptops. The HDD is fine, but if you're looking for more speed, definitely do so.

RAM

It's low end laptop ram, though you can upgrade to 8GB of ram instead of 4GB for about $85.99. The laptop only has ONE RAM slot so please take that into consideration when purchasing ram for it. Since that's the deal, you should buy ONE 8GB stick. The 4GB does get the job done, but like I said with the HDD, for those who enjoy a faster experience, do so.

Screen

It's an okay screen. The viewing angles are kind of bad, but it gets extremely bright, and gets extremely dim at the same time.

Decent computer for the price. Little hard for me to get used to but I'm not the most tech savy person in the world. I really have no other complaints and this computer has more than enough bells and whistles for my needs, although I'm sure many others wouldnt agree.

A bit surprised... This machine (and probably all Dell's going forward) does not have a Windows 8.1 Product Key sticker. Instead, according to Dell, the product key is embedded in one of the machine's chip sets. I intended to downgrade two of these cheapo laptops to W7 but after talking to Dell, that doesn't appear to be a viable option. Good news - you never have to remember or keep track of your product key, as long as you make a recovery disc using the Dell Factory Backup bootable disc process. Bad news - Dell won't support the machine until its returned to W8, the drivers are apparently embedded as well, meaning there's strong likelihood there will be conflicts even if you install the W7 drivers, etc. The Dell rep I talked to says their low end machines are all produced like this now, but other processors won't have the problem. I really hate Windows 8 so I guess I'm stuck with two machines that can never be downgraded. Might go ahead and try to see what happens, but after spending 30 minutes with the (very helpful) Dell rep, I'm not holding my breath.

Couple of other thoughts. Picture shows 3 USB ports. Mine has two. There's apparently a bay for a CD/DVD but it's covered by a blank. Not sure if an internal drive can be added, but I bought a LG DVD writer on Amazon for about twenty bucks (LG Electronics External Slim DVDRW). Must have a lower powered USB buss as the external DVD drive requires a double Type A USB cable (consuming both USB ports) on this machine, but not on my Dell XPS or wife's higher end Dell laptop. No ethernet port. Bought a USB 3.
