I loved the first and it chugged along for 10 years ...

First, this is the third Dell laptop I've had. I loved the first and it chugged along for 10 years (literally) without issues. I bought a different model 15" Dell laptop in February 2014 and it lasted about a year. I had numerous problems with the touchpad including constant random movements of the mouse and it constantly failing to register a tap on the touchpad as a mouse click. Honestly, I didn't contact Dell support about it but just lived with it. I just decided to buy a new one because the old one was falling about (yes, after only 1 year of use). Unfortunately, I'm having the same problems with the touchpad on this one as I did on the other. It's a constant battle with the touchpad and I've gotten so frustrated that I've decided I'm not going to buy another Dell. The laptop is actually fairly good otherwise, but the touchpad issues make it time consuming and frustrating to use.

Delivers on what was promised. Tons of storage and great visual imagery. Only 2 minor issues. Not having a CD drive is a bit sad, but I knew that before I bought it. Also the keyboard is shifted towards the left for room for 10 numbers (0-10 and +-*/), making it feel a little weird from an ergonomic standpoint. Overall good product for its price.

Seems like most poor reviews are either one off instances or people not reading the description or not what they personally prefer.... Or people think compters are MAGIC!! I haven't had much issue with it since I bought it. Only issue Ive come across is sometimes the touch pad registers as a right click, but that's probably more my fault than the computer's. S*** happens. I still like it!

Fingers crossed on longevity

I like it. it is fast, updtodate and solid -- so far = *it is replacing a Dell Inspiron 14 in costing roughly the same which lasted only 13 months* and gave out by not being able to charge further or turn on (very costly to investigate - and not worth fixing. If I had not required a rapid replacement, I would likely have gone with HP instead. These laptops were paired with a Desktop XPS Studio Dell, which is a workhorse and functioned well x 8 years. Pros: nice form factor, pleasant using, ease of use with Win8.1 and minimal adjusting to such. stable. nice screen. versatile.
Cons: worrisome Dell longevity. I do not enjoy hardware that dies right after warranty expiration. If I had originally stayed with Costco I am assured I could have returned the first machine for a full exchange and or refund, which Dell does not do.
