Bought this in a hurry as a replacement. It is very nice and new looking. It came with an oversized battery. I was pleasantly surprised by that! I have not tested it for duration yet. Everything went smoothly right out of the box. I followed the instruction sheet carefully. Someone else mentioned that it does not have a manual.. This is true-- it is just a laptop, a power supply and an instruction sheet. If you are comfortable with computers and Windows OS, you will be fine. If not, this *is* a good deal-- see if you can find a friend to get you going.
It is also very nice that it doesn't have any "bloatware" as someone else put it. The only thing that it has is the shortcut to the Microsoft Office Trial version. That is part of Windows.
I recommend this machine. A very good deal!!
We have another older refurbished Dell, a D630.. that thing is a tank, in a good way. My kid's Middle School and High School issues these computers to the students, which includes teenaged boys.. they are pretty tough..

Thank goodness for my I.T. guy. Many are dissing Dell, however, he recommended this awesome laptop and he does not recommend garbage (like the ASUS I ordered prior to speaking to him). Windows 7 (for me, W8 is a head-ache), 9 hour batters, CD/DVD drive, it's loaded. Granted, I got it refurbished, for the price? Awesome!

5/17/15 Update: So, I am finding frequent wifi drops to be an issue, I understand this is a complex issue as it can be any combination of signal strength, the computer's ability to hang on to a signal and the quality of signal (in the same room as the router). I tried a USB wifi booster, W7 did not like it, many conflicts. I was able to see many more available networks, yet it did noting for the dropping issue.

The main reason I removed a star (from 5 to 4) is the battery life. At times when I mouse over the battery icon (fully charged) is reads 9+ hours, yet, just under 4 is what I get before it shuts off. Bummer indeed. Otherwise is still is a great laptop considering all the CD/DVD drive, 3 USB ports etc.

5/29: Update (see my review on NETGEAR USB Adapter, as it is relevant to this review as well: "Product is NOT intended for computers (a laptop in this case) with an existing internal adapter." That's in quotes because it comes straight from NETGEAR. I mistakenly purchased and installed this to hopefully fix my new, refurbished laptop's dropping and freezing of all WIFI signals near and far. When I uninstalled it, the internal adapter became useless, unable to see any networks. 2 hours with NETGEAR and another 3 with Dell yielded nothing (by the way, "Fullfilled by Amazon" only ensures on time delivery, didn't know that either).

So, I had to reluctantly reinstall this thing so I can get online.

Good: solid and well built. doesn't come with all the bloatware that normal laptops come with. has the stickthing and touchpad both. comes with win7 pro instead of home. you can buy a dell docking station for it that works really well

Bad: it's a laptop and a/c adapter. no documentation or any accessories. the built in speaker is not great, my other laptops are way louder. kinda heavy.

ac adapter plugs into the back instead of the side like my other laptops.

Received the laptop yesterday. First, it is necessary to allow windows 7 updates to install, which takes at least a full day (no problem). Then used my backup CLICK FREE device to reinstall all of my music/photos/documents. Experienced a lot of problems with viewing programs as previously installed in my old computer. And, I am still in the process of finding out how to avoid or correct the many messages received, not allowing use of each icon on my desktop. Each icon has an arrow located within each box and when I attempt to click on the particular file (for example, clicking on Picasa message received that there is an error and therefore, cannot go further). So far, it has been very frustrating. Spent a lot of time working on my internet browser MSN, trying to have it look like before. It's important to note that my computer knowledge is lacking. and therefore, need to have a more experienced person to help. Anyway, the laptop itself is MUCH faster than my old Dell! AND, battery life is triple from what my old Dell was. If I can figure out how to correct and begin using my programs like I had with my old laptop, I expect my rating of this laptop to raise at least to four stars, and perhaps five. At this point, I would gladly send it back and upgrade my old Dell laptop. It has not been an enjoyable experience. It would have been nice to receive contact from the vendor who provided the laptop; perhaps that could have avoided some of the problems. The laptop itself is easy to use for typing, and seems to have a great deal to offer. I would not discourage anyone from using the vendor who refurbished this device. But again, you will need a computer expert to help correct the PROGRAM difficulties I've encountered, and continue to deal with.Read more ›
