I got this as a self-Christmas present the day before Christmas 2014. I really wanted to love this Ultrabook. So much of it is top notch. The screen is fantastic, the boot time is good, the size, build quality, and form factor are great. What kills this machine, and why I had to return it to Amazon (thank you Amazon!!!) is the incredibly bad keyboard. Other reviews I read talked about the keyboard being bad, but there were some I read that said it wasn't too bad, so I thought I'd take a chance and buy it. Well, it is TERRIBLE. When I first went through the initial startup for Windows 8, I did not notice it, but afterward I found that there was over a TWO SECOND hold required before a keystroke from the physical keyboard would register in a program. I could avoid this if I used the virtual keyboard on the screen (which was fine) but when starting up that keyboard it would automatically resize the app or program window and it would remain resized after I closed the virtual keyboard. For actual typing in programs like Outlook or Word, I needed to use the hardware keyboard. When I discovered that using the hardware keyboard in Windows 8 introduced a two second delay before the key-press registered in the app or program, I tried everything I could think of to see if I could find a fix. I set the keyboard sensitivity to the lightest setting, disabled the multiple press key rejection setting (there to prevent false keystrokes from registering), downloading every update, etc. What was so frustrating was that the keyboard itself might have been OK. When logging into the machine, before Windows 8 boots up, I noticed the keystrokes to enter my password had NO SUCH DELAY (OK, maybe a quarter second or so, but that was OK.Read more ›

Have only been using the computer for a couple of days, so these comments are preliminary. Pretty much agree with some other reviewers the unit itself is very near a work of art with exception of the keyboard (and couple other minor issues). Keyboard lends itself well to tablet mode since it's flat and no moving keys with openings inbetween. But it's definitely a new breed and takes getting used to, but most will gain a feel for it. Part of the trick is to have your hands perfectly positioned over the keyboard. Two notches on the "F" and "J" keys help. My typing has gone from slow & erratic to probably 50wpm or better now, which is close to my normal speed. Dell probably badly underestimated the learning curve this would cause. But it's definitely designed for and handles rapid input. The trackpad point-and-click is very accurate when used as a laptop, and great screen navigation as a tablet, and merely "flip' to get from one way to the other. The 2+ pound weight doesn't bother me.

Zinging around in tablet mode with this hi-res and wide angle LED display with zoom capability on web pages is really really a trip! Has to be tried hands-on to be appreciated, but since these models are rare in local brick-and-mortar stores, might have to order online sight-unseen like i did. (Never thought would hear myself say this, but makes Windows 8.1 actually enjoyable!) Despite its fantastic resolution and wide viewing angles, movies still trend toward pastel face blushes and grayish blacks so characteristic of LED screens. Just doesn't hold a candle side-by-side with AMOLED, i.e. Samsung 10.5" Galaxy Tab S, the standard in small screen excellence for discerning movie watching. Nevertheless this Dell's hi-qual LED is a tolerable substitute.

I'm a through and through keyboard guy, developer by profession, so working with Eclipse, Firefox, PyCharm, cygwin and Linux terminals are my primary usecases.

Day 1 experience:
- Still getting used to the keyboard. Hope I do get used to it at some point.
- Setting up Windows 8 (first boot) was an absolute horror, gotta create microsoft account, get some PIN code mailed to yourself to login !!
- Physical keyboard stopped responding at one point altogether for 3-4 screens, forcing me to use the virtual keyboard.
- Mouse arrow disappeared a couple of times for a few (infuriating) minutes. Wouldn't even come back on reboot!
- Windows 8 UI is as bad as I thought it would be. Even discounting the OS change shock (like what one would have moving from Android to iOS) it's bad. But I must confess I'm partial against Windows and Microsoft in general.
- Thought I would try to use it as a tablet 50% of time (like it's intended), couldn't find my favorite MailWise App. Amazon app works like a charm. I know Windows App Store is lacking compared to Google PlayStore and Apple iXXX, but I hope it's at least acceptable.
- Biggest let down was I got 72.8GB free of 102GB when I first logged in and before I installed anything. Advertized as 128GB.

Looking forward to USB3.0, SD card and HDMI port. Wish it had a PointStick.

For those who care, mine came with:
* i5-4210Y 1.5GHz: 4th and latest generation of Intel i5s, but the "Extremely Low Power" version "Y". Ones with i5 with M/U suffix would perform better, or even Intel Core i3-4010U @ 1.70GHz or Intel Core i3-4010U @ 1.70GHz would beat it. Intel seems like going out of it's way to make it impossible for laymen to compare the processors by it's name.
