This product is sturdy and looks very decent but it doesn't sit completely flat. If your hand or elbow tap the sides of it the tray will rotate a few degrees. It seems like they could have made the bottom more flat or added rubber tips on the bottom corners to keep it from turning. Otherwise the product works very well and gives an optimal viewing angle for my laptop. If i had to split hairs I'd ask them to make the lip a tiny bit taller so the laptop doesn't slide over the lip and off the tray but I'm being a little paranoid when I say that. Overall I like the product.

I guess this is a good stand for the price, if you have a 13 inch laptop, or maybe a mac book air, but font expect it to properly hold a 17 inch laptop. I have a 17 inch dell, with 2 hard drives (one ssd so it doest weigh much). My laptop has a keypad and number pad (as is common with dell 17, HP and Toshiba). The stand does not fully support my laptop, due to its size and weight. What is worse is its next to impossible to use the adjust button to tilt the laptop once you have it sitting on top of this thing.

I think I will go back to using a couple books for a stand.

That is, unless you want your laptop to slide off onto the floor. The front lip/ledge is not a tall enough barrier to stop any PC from sliding off. Also, the hard rubber-like strips along the sides, which are supposed to provide enough traction along the edges to keep the laptop from sliding off, are so far apart that smaller laptops and Netbooks (15 inches or less) will not be wide enough.

I got this riser for use with a 2011 Macbook Air. It would be used for docking purposes with an external keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Upon receiving the item, I can understand why some people would be hesitant about the size of the lip holding the laptop on. It's perfectly find for a thin Air, but with bulkier PC laptops, it might be a tad precarious. I have the thing set in its most tilted setting, and the bottom of the laptop LCD and my external Dell on a 5-inch stand line up perfectly. Given 100% choice, it would line up top-to-top, but it still makes it extremely useable. The lack of side guards is actually very good in that it makes it very easy to access the ports. And the unit has a good amount of friction, so I wouldn't ever worry about my laptop sliding off sideways.

The overall product is good. However, my laptop has a rounded edge and does not sit right on the front ledge/support. My laptop will slide forward and fall off the stand if bumped. I have the stand set at the highest setting. Fixed this issue with some heavy duty velcro. Before you buy this item, be sure your laptop has a flat/square edge or you will have the same problem. Added a few stick on pads to the bottom to stop the rock/swivel issue that others have listed. Low cost and does the job.

This is falsely advertised product. It will not hold the laptop because front edge is not even 3/4 of an inch tall and your laptop will slide down unless its very thin like Macbook air. This laptop stand is also poorly constructed and is very shaky. I should have listened to other reviews on Amazon. Do not buy!

My laptop is a Dell G62 340US and usually runs pretty hot when sitting flat on my desk. With a separate keyboard and wireless mouse attached, it was also difficult to see the keypad on the laptop and screen because I needed to place them farther away. I knew a laptop riser stand would solve all three problems, so I purchased this riser from Staples and set it up immediately to test it. The open bottom perfectly solved the problem of overheating by allowing air to circulate underneath the laptop and letting the heat generated by the laptop dissipate into the room. It contained a latch that you release to change the viewing angle which raised the screen for a more comfortable viewing angle, tilted the keypad toward me, and I was also able to bring the entire laptop closer to me. The only problem as many reviewers have already mentioned was the lip that is supposed to secure the laptop from sliding when raised to higher viewing angle was not high enough to support my unit. So, I was able to improvise and solve the problem with a Barnes and Noble aluminum bookmark that I crazy glued securely to the plastic lip and it acted as an extension shelf to perfectly secure the laptop from sliding even at the highest viewing angle. With this small do-it-yourself modification, I highly recommend this accessory if you've had similar problems with your laptop. Please note, that this is not a travel riser and will not collapse into a flat travel package, but it is good to use at home or keep at work.

I wanted a riser for my standing desk to save my neck when I'm working on my laptop, and settled on this one because it was the only one large enough to accommodate my dinosaur of a laptop. I've had it for a few weeks now, and for the most part it's great - stable, with a variety of height adjustment options.

The only problem is the lip across the bottom to keep the computer from sliding off at steep inclines. My laptop is close to an inch thick. The lip is only about half an inch. It's secure enough if I'm standing there working, but I don't feel comfortable leaving it on the riser when I step away from my desk. Not a dealbreaker for me, but it's definitely something to be aware if you have a larger machine.
