Not bad

I just got a new 17" gaming laptop and wanted a decent pad to help keep it cool but one that wouldn't break the bank, this one scored pretty high on a few test sights. I would say it's better suited for a 15" laptop, my 17 fits but it does hang over on both sides. It is adjustable but didn't seem very stable for a laptop as large as mine but I'm going to experiment to see what I can do to improve stability and allow a little more airflow. For now it's doing what I need it to.

*Update as of 1/28/15*

I've had the pad for a little over 4 months, used it for about 3 months since it arrived before my laptop did. Its gotten moderate use just about every day, I'd say 4-6 hours on average and now when it turns on it is very loud, the noise does quiet down after a few minutes, but it raises the question about how durable to motor inside is. I looked it over to see if maybe it was clogged with dust, but that doesn't seem to be an issue, so we'll see how much longer it lasts, and update if anything changes.

Stylish, efficeint and extremely quiet cooling!

This unit is an excellent solution to an overheating laptop. The fans are effective enough but the ability to create a wider cooling gap by raising the base platform incrementally adds to the efficiency of the unit. The power cord is long enough to reach USB ports on either side of the laptop and the fans are extremely quiet. Small grippers to hold the laptop bottom in place adds to the security of the cooling unit.

Ouchie edges and broke after only a few months of moderate use.

Update: I have downgraded from a 3 star to a one star review for this item. I bought it because the last one I bought quit working after only a few months so this time I did some research and found that the Gear Head model was supposed to be one of the top rated laptop cooling pads. Well, initially I said that the fan worked perfectly, but if you actually want to use your laptop on your lap, the edges are sharp enough to be uncomfortable. I have solved the issue for myself by putting the laptop on the cooling pad and then that on a lap desk. It's a little cumbersome, but my laptop stays cool and I stay comfortable. After only a few months of moderate use, and no traumatic incidents such as dropping the cooling pad or anything like that, it started making a horrible racket and quit working. Big waste of money.

Not useable for a 17 inch laptop

Not big enough for my 17 inch laptop.
Device cord sticks up making the laptop not lay flat which requiring the height adjustable cooling plate to be raised.
After raising the height adjustable cooling plate my 17 inch open laptop is to big and wants to tilt/fall off the back of the device.
The device has popup latches in the front of the cooling deck to hold the front of the laptop when the cooling deck is elevated but they are not designed good enough to work.
When using the popup latches and only elevating the cooling deck one level(has around total 5 levels) my open laptop wants to flip off the back of the device.
The device is not useable with my 17 inch laptop due to the power cord being in the way when the deck is flat and the laptop trying to fall off when the cooling deck is raised to avoid the power cord.

Revolutionary

This is a great product. The best feature of it is the Chassis. Is covered in neoprene.
the angled dash is adjustable for height, the holders work awesome and the flow is adequate.
Now its a one speed but it cools at the right spot for a 15 in laptop. I think wouldn't go much bigger
than that. The fan dash can be used flat and then it has recessed air scoops
that direct the air up and out. It cleans up easy and the connector is easy to access.
The pin connector will loosen up a little like most all of these including the antecs
but on the the gear head you can access the pin jack without extensive disassembly.
Mine has loosened a bit but from the design I can tell you that the jack shouldn't give out
completely even if it does get intermittent a little. The position of the cord at the center does
promote a little stress on the jack but Ive been careful with this and the benefits of this angular
platform at this price level far outweigh the power supply set up..not being ideal.
Beyond that I think this cooler should win an award for design and function.

I have owned this product for roughly one month. I previously had a similar laptop cooling pad that was missing some of the features of this one, i.e. the built-in stand. I was very pleased with my previous cooling pad and I gave it some of the credit for my previous laptop still being in commission after 5 years. It was stolen when my home was burglarized and this replacement blows it away. The Gear Head cooling pad is incredibly quiet but still manages to cool the low level gaming laptop I have that is running a powerful processor and dual graphics cards. It is comfortable enough for me to use without an additional keyboard whether I am using it on a table, in my lap, or laying it on my chest when laying down. In summation: (1) it is effective; (2) it is quiet; (3) it is comfortable; and (4) it looks great. I bought it around $24--for the price I don't think you could find a better product. I highly recommend this cooling "wedge."
