I bought this drive to replace a 20 GB drive on an aging Gateway 425sx Pentium M laptop. Installation was easy, and once it was installed the machine ran substantially faster.

Seems the old drive had been failing and bogging down the system. I recommend this for anyone with older hardware. I would also recommend using something like Xubuntu for your OS if you really want to speed up your old system.

Heavily used in the past

I ordered this as a replacement for a very old laptop. It seems to be working just fine so far (about 2 days in) but looking at the S.M.A.R.T. details on the drive it appears to have already had 36,000 hours of use. It's normal to see some use from the factory but this is more than 4 years solid of prior use... that's a lot.

If you're okay with a refurbished or otherwise used hard drive, that's fine, but know that you probably won't get a brand new one for such a good price.

Refurbished: NOT NEW!

They appear to work, but they were purchased as new and the one I have checked showed over 32,000 hours of uptime. They should state that they are used / refurbished. I would have given a better rating had the product info been honest. Unfortunately, there is no suitable justification in the product info modification screen that would allow a buyer to modify the product info to fit this. I guess you can't argue with the price.

Overpriced, but where else will you find them?

Obviously these are pre-used and pulled from systems. They should be cheaper, given that they could fail at anytime. But given how hard it is to find any PATA laptop hard drives these days, this will have to do, unless another seller starts pulling drives from junk machines and undercutting this price.
