Perfect!

A friend of mine has an old Dell laptop. The original 40 gb drive died, so I got this to replace it with. I had to take off Dell's adapter from the old drive and put it on this one, then install it in the computer. A nice, fresh install of WinXP Home, do all the appropriate updates, install a security software package and a few other useful utilities, and it's good to go!
I also installed more RAM, and he's thrilled with the performance of the machine. Okay, so it's an old Pentium 1 processor, but he says it's a vast improvement in performance over what it used to be. Amazing how much difference a simple upgrade makes.

If you are looking for a hard to find hard drive for Dell Inspiron 1000 Laytop this pata hard drive is what you are looking for. Memory size is big enought and speed good. Parta hard drive seem to be hard to find.
Made my olde Dell Inspiron 1000 run like new. Now is all needed is to increase RAM size.

Good replacement part..

Had a HP wide printer EIO Hard Drive that went bad. Rather than paying $300+ for a replacement HP card, I bought this $45 drive and spent 15 minutes replacing the drive in EIO card. Popped it back in the Wide Printer and it worked! I saved at least $250

Perfect Fit and Cure for an ailing device

I bought this for my Cenda Memory card reader. It's a nifty little device that you take with you and it copies your camera cards of to an internal HDD so you can erase the card and take more pictures. I dropped the little bugger from my desk and the HDD in it just didn't survive, it has a 30 gig. Not wanting to scrap the device I got this 80 gig device and carefully replaced the HDD. After a couple of formats I got it back up and running perfectly. The only snag was a 200 MB partition that I didn't know about on the drive that made it unreadable to my PS3 where I dump my pictures to play memory studio. Once I blew that away and formatted again in fat32 all was great.

Operated only slightly better than defective disk it replaced.

The device arrived promptly and appeared in good condition. I purchased the drive as a replacement for a failing drive of similar size/type. It was only after installing this "refurbished" drive that it became obvious that it quickly overheated when in use. The disk would randomly cause the system to restart, when the temperature rose to 53 C from the 52 degree ambient temperature of the drive at rest. While it does operate, the thermal shutdown/restart makes it impractical to use/rely upon.

Easy replacement for an aging laptop

Misrepresented

The drive arrived as promised and appeared to be new. It was in a sealed static bag, as I would expect. It also appeared to be in good working order. However, I am in the computer business and I have the tools to examine the drive. When I did, I learned that it had over 39,000 hours of run time, more than twice the normal meantime-between-failure. Not exactly a new drive!

System pull being sold as retail is a scam. Buyer beware!

Amazon needs a better way for buyers to know if its retail, oem or a system pull. This drive was not new. Sept 08 date. Pins were good. This is not oem or retail. It was a system pull. Ran diagnostics on it and has very little life left in it. Amazon needs to make sellers of computer components put more info on their products. Will not be buying from this seller again. I am a pc repair technician so I know how to find out how much longer a hard drive can be used before it is dead in the water.
