Beautiful and functional backpack

My wife and I used this bag for a 17 day trip to Europe. We used it as a carry-on bag for all our travelling and as a daypack during sight-seeing.

Pros:
--Volume: we fit a 32oz Nalgene bottle, a small lunch, two emergency ponchos, guidebooks, two sets of earbuds, a thin (but large) scarf, travel documents and a lightweight pullover in this backpack. There was still plenty of maneuvering room inside: it wasn’t packed to the zipper.
--Durability: There is box stitching on the shoulder straps and the leather flap is both sewn and riveted to the bag body near where the shoulder straps are connected. The hardy metal zipper was a selling point for me as well.
--Function: I thought, contrary to other reviewers for this and similar Gootium packs, that the interior pockets were great for notebooks, cords, snack bars, etc. I had no problems at all with finding a spot for things, or not having zippers or straps over the interior pockets. This has a main compartment, a padded laptop compartment (with a strap over the top), and two, 4"-5" deep open pockets in the main compartment. Simple.
--Materials/aesthetics: the quality of the leather is exceptional for a $50 pack, and it held up very well. I conditioned all the leather before we left for Europe. The flap took the most wear and scratches, being a large exposed surface, and with the treatments it survived beautifully. Most scuffs could just be rubbed away easily with your hands. The only permanent damage I found was to the leather zipper pull tab, which got scratched, but it is only cosmetic and still functions perfectly. The canvas, which is sturdy and attractive, survived without any noticeable wear.
--Comfort: the straps were wide and very well padded.Read more ›

Cheap zipper hardware

I'm SO disappointed in this bag. It looks great, the grey is darker in person. But after a month and half of using it to carry my macbook and a notebook to work 3 days a week (I use my gym bag the other days) the zipper split and now it won't stay closed. I can still use it by pulling the flap down and using the magnets but it really sucks that I can't zip it up. Major bummer.

Almost perfect

I purchased this bag and the 31248 to compare them. This is the bag I decided to keep even though I love the other bag, too. Pros - This bag is very stylish and looks a bit dressier with the distressed leather flap. The handle at the top is designed like a briefcase handle making it very easy to carry the bag in one hand. The main compartment has a zipper closure (making it more secure than the snaps on the 31248). The 30520 is slightly smaller, but in my packing test I was able to pack the same clothing items in each bag with room to spare. What I would like to see changed - while the straps are padded and very comfortable, they are very wide, too wide for my small frame. There are no zippered pockets inside the main compartment to use to store money and the other inside pockets are not that useful in shape/size. There is only one large pocket on the front of the outside, too large to put anything inside and feel like it won't slide around or be difficult to grab quickly. (The 31248 has an interior zippered pocket, two side pockets just the size of a plane ticket and passport case, and two pockets on the front which fit a Paperwhite perfectly, making it easy to take items out and put them away again.) Both bags are well made and attractive. If they would change/add outside pockets on this bag and add a zippered pocket inside, this would be the perfect bag.

Can't love this bag enough

Can't love this bag enough--I just want to wear it everywhere! I wish it was a little better in terms of organization (had more/deeper pockets on the inside), but it's so cute that I can look past that. :) The bag paired with my favorite Yeminici (yeminici.com) shoes are my perfect travel companions.

Really great quality. I love how thick the shoulder straps are so it doesnt cut into you. However, i wish the color was truer (its a lot darker gray than the image shows) and i wish there was some padding on the bottom. I have to remember to be extra careful when placing it down if my laptops in it. Most backpacks have some sort of bottom lining/cushion, this is just canvas. I also wish that it had more pockets. There is only one main compartment, a side pocket with no zipper, and two very small inner pockets (enough for pencils) with no zipper or flap so things fall out. All in all, its still a nice look for using when riding my bike to work. It would have just been nicer if it had a few more touches.

Very happy with look, feel, and space!

It's adorable to start. It looks super simple but inside has several compartments and a padded section for a tablet or ipad. My main concern was going to be the straps, but they're padded just enough and it's very comfortable. Looking forward to using this as I travel abroad.
