Simple protection is better. We use notebooks and ipads around the office and at home and couldn't find a simple lap platform that offered the performance and mobility we need at a fair price. We don't like the "cooling" decks that have fans (what's the point?) or speakers (really...this is a tray, not a stereo), but we do like the idea of protecting our gonads from excessive heat (just in case). The Grifiti Deck 15 does all that you need with a simple design: A rigid, lightweight aluminum plate sandwiched in soft non-skid textured neoprene. The plate provides the support you need. The grippy neoprene has great traction to keep your notebook or ipad in place and provides an effective insulation layer against toasty hot laptops. You won't get any nasty laptop skin burns and deep fried gonads when you properly use our Grifiti Deck. .At 15 inches x 12inches x 0.25 inches and 1.8 lb it's small enough and light enough to stuff in your bag and take with you. WOW! More than I expected!

For of all, let me say that it got here QUICK.
Ordered February 27th at 10:00PM, was at my door February 29th at 12:00PM.
The Gifiti Lap Desk is very sturdy in design.
The neoprene cover keeps my laptop from sliding even at steep angles when I laying down.
Before, I would just have to reposition when I feel my laptops' hot vent.
Now, I have this deck that I can lay my 15.6" Gateway Laptop on to protect my thighs and more importantly, my gonads!

The lap desk actually felt slightly heftier than I expected, the aluminum core seems to think enough to prevent any heat from seeping through.
There is virtually no bend with this product, which shows me that it is a quality product. The neoprene fabrication does also feel very high quality.
With my laptop sitting at the very front of the lap desk I have about a 1 and a half inch space in the back, which is great!
If you're working from home and you have a 15.6" or larger laptop, I would recommend getting the 17" size just because of the extra size.
If you're planning to do some commuting, I would recommend buying the 13" or 15" version just for the added portability.

Usage as a writing desk is pretty good as well!
Works like a large clipboard, however, you should be careful not to poke any holes through the paper!

In conclusion:
As a student that regularly uses their computer as well as write paper by hand, this is a must have.
I can now sit or lay down in a comfortable position without risking frying my thigh or gonads.
Excellent product, very high quality, I know that this will last me for a long long time.

Does not block heat

The aluminum core of this lap desk lets the heat from my MacBook Pro through. It does block the heat for a few minutes, but soon my legs are hot and I have to move the computer off my lap.

If you are looking for a lap desk to keep your computer's heat off your lap, then keep looking!

Best Lap Desk I've Owned (And I've Tried Many)

I've gone through many lap desks looking for one I really like. I've never used one for longer than a few months before wanting to try a different one. All of them had the same problem: my laptop wouldn't grip the desk. They're almost all angled and my laptop would slide down. I have a MacBook Pro, so the bottom isn't grippy on its own. I've tried plain lap desks like this one and cooling lap desks that have fans in them. This one is by far my favorite. It is entirely covered in grippy material. In fact it feels like a piece of sheet metal covered in rubbery grippy material. Very simple, but it works! My laptop goes nowhere on this thing; it stays put.

Another huge bonus I didn't even think about until I got it is that it's packable. It is small enough to place inside my laptop travel bag and take with me! I can take this thing with me on vacation, or anywhere I take my laptop. The 15" size version of this lap desk is the same width as my 15" MacBook Pro, and about two inches deeper. So it sticks out about two inches beyond the back. That may be a problem packing it in some bags, but it fits my messenger bag and a backpack I have that contains a laptop compartment. No other lap desk I've owned would be able to pack along with my laptop. Again, it wasn't even something I was looking for in a lap desk but it turned into a huge benefit. If I'm traveling for a week it's so nice to have my lap desk with me.

Another huge bonus is the price. This is by far the least expensive lap desk of all the ones I've tried. At any rate, I highly recommend giving this one a shot.

The Grifti Deck is perfect for my 15"MacBook Pro. It's lightweight and I can sit with my laptop on it for hours feeling no heat. The only reason I deducted a star was that the rubberized backing seems to come off a little bit along the edges.

Better than a burned leg

My laptop got hot enough one night, that I burned blisters on my leg. This plate is very light, yet surprisingly sturdy, and keeps the heat off my legs.

I have a 13" Griffiti Deck with my Sony laptop, and a 15" Griffiti Deck with my wife's 15" Acer laptop. Both Decks are the width of the laptops, with an over-hang in front and back. The overhang helps balance the laptops on our laps.

I use a Scunci Head Band to clamp my laptop to the Griffiti Deck, making them one piece, and easier to carry. I really recommend the hair band with the Griffiti Deck (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00284W03Q/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_11).

I also put some rubber bumpers on the bottom of the laptops to create a larger air space under the laptops (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003IMSIBA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).

PERFECT for my Cherry mini keyboard w/ trackball

I bought this to use as a mini-keyboard platform/wrist wrest for my much-loved compact Cherry keyboard with mini-trackball (clicky and precise but so small it's hard to balance on my lap). This small platform enables me to sit in any position whatsoever with my keyboard- cross-legged, half reclining, whatever. The surface is so non-skid I can use the keyboard almost vertically, at right angles. The deck is exactly the width of my keyboard, and since it is taller, you can position the keyboard wherever you want upon it, love it since I like a wide wrist rest. And what a bargain! Wafer thin, lightweight, yet sturdy, and washable. I also bought the 17 inch version for my clicky Compaq rack-mount keyboard. Typing/browsing bliss, fantastic!
