Easy to use, saves money when transferring data from drive of your old computer.

I used this case when transferring data from my old lap top.
Best Buy charges 85 dollars for a data transfer which you can do by using one of these cases.
Still can us the old hard drive as an external drive after saving your files to the new computer.
USB connection has its speed limitations but it does the job.
Make sure the drive is SATA type before purchasing this drive case.

Nothing fancy, does the job.

Simple in every way, nothing fancy but does what it was built to do. Tested it out, houses 2.5" HDD and SSD drives with no problem, no tools needed as the top cover fits into place. I did like the thin protective layer that's provided where the drive would rest on top of. Looks sleek, yet metal feels cheap and looks as if its prone to scratches. Soup cans are more durable. Only design flaw is the indicating light sticks out a bit much and can easily be broken off if one is not careful. Despite that and the low quality metal, it works just fine.

Inexpensive, but CHEAP and substandard design.

** I do NOT recommend purchasing this device **

Drives in this device show up as USB 3.0 and several I have used have a transfer rate of 12.5 MB/s. Did a 43 GB transfer in a little over an hour. For comparison, I have a USB 2.0 drive dock that I used and had a transfer rate of 23.7 MB/s. File read from this device on a USB 2.0 port never even reached 1.0MB/s. Device would function for a (slow) emergency transfer of data from an old laptop hard drive, but is not something you would want to use long-term. Would not consider this dependable for portability as the case does not stay closed and device does not work reliably in multiple systems' USB 2.0 ports.

Transfer rates are appallingly slow.
USB 2.0 compatibility is sketchy at best.
Case does not stay closed (no screws at all) and needs glue or a rubber band to keep your drive safe.

Extremely Poor Quality

I received this item today and am horrified. None of the reviews of this item are accurate. There are NOT any screws to mount the drive to the enclosure. The enclosure opens like a box of candy, sliding open from one side to see the port. You slide the drive into the SATA port. The enclosure closes by snapping shut at one end with a couple of divots in the metal that line up with some holes in the inner casing. There is not anything to hold the drive in place. The metal is very very thin and flimsy. It dented on one side just by pulling the tape off the packaging. Not a good buy, extremely cheap and not well made at all. If this was a dollar store item I may have said it was worth it. I have purchased similar priced items in the past, that have actual mounting screws, and the metal is not as thin as a piece of paper.

Love the Red!

Love this product. It is about as easy as it comes to creating a pocket hard drive. The only thing to remember if you don't reformat the hard drive to just be docked storage then one will be able to take full advantage of the drive and all the info on it if you go into your bios and change the order in which to boot your computer and use the connected drive as your boot or to instal a virtual box and run the operating system within your operating system. Hope this makes sense. Amazong price.

but they worked fine in my front ports

Just received it. Seems to do what it should. Doesn't seem to be getting hot. Strangely enough, this wouldn't work in the USB ports in the back of my PC, but they worked fine in my front ports. I'm not sure why that is, whether it is an issue with my PC or the device, but it works as it should in the front ports, so I couldn't care less.

Note: I am using a 5400rpm 250gb HDD. May not support 7200rpm.
