A compact computer, with a good number of ports. Recovery disk creation failed, but HP made it right. Processor is ok, not fast

First, understand that this is a small computer, with a small keyboard, and that it may take some getting used to, because of the smaller keys. I knocked off a couple stars because I had a couple gripes. The first, I thought this hp Pavilion 11-e115nr ll.6 touchscreen notebook came with a "regular" AMD A-6 CPU. Maybe I missed it, but I did not notice in reading the specs on Amazon that the actual CPU number is AMD A-6 1450, which is basically a 1Ghz quad core, that can step up to around 1.4 or 1.5 Ghz. Anyway, it is classified as a "tablet processor" on some of the review sites that I visited (post purchase). In applications where one core is actively used, performance may be similar, or possibly less than some Intel Celeron processors, according to my interpretation of ratings I saw on the web. It is ok for web surfing, and e mail, but definitely not an AMD A6-5200. So, don't expect a lot of speed.

My next gripe, was that the Recovery disk operation failed at 40% into DVD 2 (of 4) twice. To the credit of hp, hp Customer Support Fed Ex'ed a recovery flash drive, at no charge to me, so thank you, hp for that, and it came fast. Hp Customer Service was very good, and eager to accommodate me. They even called me back to make sure I had received the recovery flash drive, and that if I had any other questions, that they would be happy to help. So far, I rate the HP Customer Service at 5 Stars.

Beyond those two issues, this is a pretty nice little computer, with a bright, clear screen and a very good compliment of ports: 2 usb 3, 1 usb2, an HDMI Jack, an RJ45 network jack, monitor jack, card slot, and a combination headphone / microphone jack.
There is also a built in microphone next to the webcam. The web cam provides a good image.Read more ›

Not THAT bad!

I just replaced my 2008 white Macbook for this. Going from OSX to Windows 8 touchscreen was a totally new experience. Windows 8 was pretty interesting for a first-timer like me, but not actually hard. I just needed to get the hang of it some more.

Anyway, this laptop is just fine for everyday use, such as e-mail, internet, etc. It looks well-built, the display is vivid and the touchscreen is quite responsive (more so with your finger, than with a stylus). Even the smaller keyboard is still manageable - and I have large hands! As far as the processor goes, it isn't the fastest, but it still does its job. Though I must say, the mouse button is a bit noisy when pressed.

Most of the time, I'm online via Chrome and/or using iTunes. So far, no issues with quality or usability. So if you just need a simple laptop for the basics, then I would recommend this. But if high-performance is what you're looking for, I'd say look for something else. This little machine is definitely worth the benefit of the doubt before we judge it too harshly, too quickly.

Powerful netbook

FYI stock Windows is always slow and frustrating. I made a custom lightweight version of Windows without annoying updates, firewall, background transfers, security notifications etc. This netbook runs like a racehorse champ. Installed an ssd 256gb and wow. Simply amazing. Just use the machine responsibly and don't install every load of madness there is. This is why people get frustrated with Windows machines. Don't install the world of apps. Having a light custom version of Windows 8.1 helps a lot too.

Do not buy this product!!!

Do not buy this computer because it is of little use. After just 4 months it is already giving me problems. The screen's touch sometimes is activated without me even touching the screen and opens different software on its own. This was a waste of my money as it has only been only 4 month and this computer is already behaving like a 4 year old computer. This is not a good buy!!!
