this is a great unit for the dough

Reading some of the other reviews both before and after purchasing this laptop, I wanted to offer my perspective. First, the four stars instead of five is because a) the picture shown wasn't the actual computer, and b) no place was it noted there isn't a memory expansion slot. I didn't particularly want a keyboard with a full numeric, but that's what this has. Nonetheless, it's not that big of a deal, but they should note that the picture wasn't of the actual device. Also, it should list that there isn't a memory expansion slot. I wanted to upgrade the installed 4GB of RAM to 8, even ordered a 4GB memory card to be able to do so, but there is nowhere to put it. Aside from that, this is a great unit for the dough. Setting it up is a breeze; I had it running in minutes, and this weekend I've put it through its paces and it works fine. My former laptop, which is a higher-end HP (that my wife commandeered) has nothing on this one for performance. I should note that I'm not a gamer, just use it for Internet, Office applications, and the occasional card game. Others have suggested its slow; I respectfully disagree. I would have thought 4GB of memory would be limiting, but I haven't noticed it at all. Also, all the concern about Windows 8 seems to be misplaced. Yes, there is a short period of getting used to a different look (although you can merely go to your desktop if you want a Windows 7 feel), but it's easy to figure out and I'm starting to like it. I've read that the lack of a Start button is what a lot of folks complained about when 8.0 was released. This has 8.1 and it's back, so apparently Microsoft listened, and I have to agree it's useful. Lastly, I'm getting close to five hours of battery life with the wireless card on, so I see no concerns there.

So, in my opinion, this is a good buy and I recommend it highly.

I ordered this laptop and it arrived three days before the expected delivery date. Awesome! They only thing is it did not come with Microsoft word software, so I had to purchase that separately. Still, it was an inexpensive purchase overall, and does so many cool things outside of the basics.

I really love this laptop!! The best one I ever purchased, and the price was great!! Shipping was also excellent!! The one thing I wasn't aware of, was that Microsoft Office doesn't exactly come included!! You have to purchase the Product Key separately!! But you still can get a free 30 day trial!! Perfect for students or basic use

This laptop is definitely worth the price! Purchased at local wally world store for $199. Perfect for students or basic use! Went in to purchase another brand with lesser specs for $248, but it was out of stock..so I noticed this had more memory and cheaper! Even the salesperson couldn't believe the price. Only other laptops I have seen on multiple sites for this price is the 11" Chromebooks. This one had Microsoft Office pre-installed, but for limited use, so eventually you need to provide a product key for Office. But you can access Microsoft Office and Word online (with Wi-Fi) or download Open Office for free! Great Product and Worth Every Penny.

Awesome laptop

this laptop is perfect. I needed an upgrade from an 8 year old Dell. The graphic card in this laptop is big enough to play games such as the sims 4 and mine craft. The new windows 8 on it runs smoothly and much easier to maneuver than its previous version on other laptops. It's lightweight and super quiet. The screen is bright and crisp. It's fast when playing games or just surfing the web. I have games, apps, movies, and pictures on mine and it still runs great! The dvd drive is a bonus that most laptops don't have anymore, it's perfect for watching movies on the go. I purchased an external hard drive to hold a lot more movies. I also purchased an Xbox 360 wired controller to play games with and it works perfectly. The trackpad is a little sensitive so sometimes you will accidenly click on stuff when your moving the mouse around but the actual mouse buttons are fine, but I do recommend buying a usb mouse bcuz of the track pads sensitivity, it can get annoying. It has USB ports, headphone jack and etc. the webcam works great for skyping friends and family. The speakers are loud and sound clear for jamming to music. The battery life is great, I let it charge then downloaded apps, played music and played a few games and it didn't decrease quickly. I would highly recommend this laptop for anyone, student, stay at home mom, grandparents or the occasional/light gamer. It's perfect and I will be buying a 2nd one for my husband.
