Crackling sound, defective keyboard on 2 units

This machine is horrible. I got two of them on black Friday and both units crackle anytime a sound file is played. Its very annoying. Even more annoying is that HP and Walmart seem to just want to blame one another. Both machines new out of the box have this defect. Also others who bought this machine are complaining. HP wants me to ship in in for repair. They say they have to replace the keyboard, motherboard, sound card, and speakers, and hard drive and lastly WIFI card. They wont send me a replacement unit until they attempt to repair it. The other reviewer who says the machine skips letters is not lying, it does skip, I also notice that there are keys that stick on the keyboard. I am going to be sending my two units in for repair and will see what happens. Hopefully more reviews start to poor in and HP decides to just acknowledge that these things are bad. Let me repeat TWO units have the exact same problem right out of the box. I am very skilled in computers, this machine puts HP's name to shame. The way HP is handling this problem also destroys HP's reputation, I am sickened that I am a shareholder of this company, cant wait for the market to open, SELL, SELL, SELL!

EPIC FAIL HP - VERY DISAPPOINTED

I am so upset w/ this computer that we got on Black Friday at Walmart. My Windows 7 laptop is a Toshiba but all of our laptops at work are HP so I thought I wouldn't have any problems. I was in no rush to get it out of the box because I am hating the thought of Windows 8 but wanted to get to know it better so we bought this. Took it out of the box 2 days ago & have had trouble with the keys sticking & skipping. I have a hard time typing anything because it is skipping every other letter and not putting spaces in, so I have to peck at the keys instead of typing smoothly as usual. I actually just updated a friends windows 8 computer for her & am regretting not buying a Toshiba which is what she has. I guess I should have spent the money instead of trying to cut costs but if this is what people who can't afford high $ computers is getting, I feel so bad for them. I will be contacting HP directly & doubt that they will be able to resolve this w/out costing me more money.....so I will just have to deal w/ it & spend money on a better laptop. Epic Fail HP!!!

Really good computer.

♥♥ This computer is Amazing! I was going to get a Acer laptop on black friday but another customer asked me why I did not want this one which was 50 dollars cheaper with the same specs. It made me think. I did not know as much about computers when I was making this purchase. Now I am happy the person brought it to my attention. I was able to buy me and my son one which he uses it for games and homeschool. Mine is used for blogging and work.

♥♥ We still plan on building or buying our son a full gaming computer because he wants to make how to videos on youtube of games. He is a big fan of electronics and I promised him one eventually.

♥♥ This computer is fast! It holds so much too. I fit all my Sims 3 on mine with ease. My old computer would not even run sims 3. It is sturdy and I am just glowing over it. We are so happy with them even my gaming son.

Good for price

For the price I paid (160) and all the stuff you get (webcam, DVD burner, 500GB hard drive, USB 3.0 port) it's very hard to complain about this laptop. It does come with lots of bloatware (McAfee at top of list) that should be uninstalled if you want the machine to run to its potential. Do this via "Programs and Features" located in the Control Panel and also through programs like SpyBot, CCleaner, etc...

I have not had much luck running Internet Explorer on this machine. It runs slow, crashes often and I do get some delayed/missing letters when I type, as others have mentioned. Although I tried disabling all IE toolbars and extensions (aside from Flash) and later did a full browser reset, nothing helped. This may be more a fault with the browser than the laptop itself, esp. since after I switched to Firefox I've had no issues in those regards.

I do wish the keys on the laptop were backlit, though at least the caps lock and wireless key have a light on them so you know their toggle state ("num lock" key has no such light). Like some other hp's, the keyboard has mute/volume increase/decrease buttons which I find very handy. Fortunately, I have not experienced the audio problems others have complained about.

Packaging does not contain backup disks (perhaps that's the norm these days) though hp does offer a (somewhat limiting) recovery image utility which writes to either a series of DVD's or 1 flash drive (less than or equal to 32GB). For some reason, hp will only allow you to create ONE recovery image so consider yourself forewarned.

Though no fault of hp, the Windows 8 O/S is a headache and a real step back in terms of functionality. If you like to tweak your system, it will fight you every step of the way.
