I have now had this laptop for a little over a month and am still very impressed. For this price point (mine was just under $600) this is an amazing deal. The reason it is such a good deal is that it has most of the features of a higher end laptop but at a medium range price point. For instance, it has a very responsive touch screen, a huuugeee amount of ram, a backlit keyboard and a high end exterior look.

The Good:
- I really did not care about the beats audio but I am very very happy with the look of the laptop, it looks and feels like I spent $1500 on it and I have been getting lots of interest and compliments on the look. The colors and feel of it overall are just top notch high quality, you will feel great carrying this around.
- The numbers are fantastic and translate well to usage, cpu, ram, hdd are all very good for the price and it runs like a high end laptop. The RAM is the highlight here as it can handle tons of programs running at the same time without any issue, I think the high level of RAM is what makes me like...
-Windows 8.1 , I know its got some haters, but on this laptop I have been enjoying it! With the RAM on this machine windows runs fast and looks great on the screen, it is a lot different but you can use it like older windows versions too.
-TOUCH SCREEN, this touchscreen is so responsive that I use it all the time. Win8.1 is built for touchscreen but I have found myself using the touch for all kinds of different programs, it is not only cool, but can be a time saver too. It is also another great high end feature that you can impress your friends with.
- General Program Handling, this laptop can run most any program flawlessly, I am using firefox for web browsing and it is lightning fast as are the download speeds.Read more ›

So for everyone out there having any issues... I talked to HP about these issues...LONG call

When we first got this laptop it did seem to have inaccurate specs (some ads say 2.7ghz and this says 1.7ghz). I want to clarify that the processor has an auto optimize feature. When it needs to run at 2.7 it will run at 2.7. if it doesn't need to, then it will run at whatever speed it needs to save power. The HP tech guy said it is actually a 3.2ghz max processor.

Second:
The weird shutting down that we witnessed AND later we read a bunch of comments about. I used to sell computers and also software and I can't believe I overlooked this BUT if you have more than 1 antivirus software (it comes with McAfee out of the box) they have a tendency to fight with each other and they'll eventually shut down the system without warning. Before returning it or writing a bad review, check to see if you have more than one antivirus software installed.

Last thing:
Beats Audio is a name. I also used to sell headphones (I worked at Fry's) and Beats Audio is a specific audio mix. It has nothing to do with overall sound quality or volume. It's a laptop and the speakers are super tiny and super flat. If you want to take advantage of the Beats Audio then connect it to a pair of speakers or headphones. Remember that Beats WILL NOT MAKE YOUR SPEAKERS AUTOMAGICALLY AWESOME (I meant to say magic). That depends on your speakers and with speakers... YES the heavier they are, the better the quality. Generally cheap speakers will not perform well. Combine the Beats Audio with awesome speakers (klipsch, polk, bose, etc.) and it will sounds awesome.

For the price, you really can't beat this laptop. This really does compare to a $1000 laptop and it does work well for gaming (we play WoW with max settings no issues)

Beware... Will not last longer then a year

I got this computer today, which was a day early of the expected arrival time. I bought it on a whim because I loved ALL the specs that it was offering and I liked the look and feel of it. After taking the computer out of the box and fussing around with it for a couple hours I got it in tune with it and I have to say that I love it. The touch screen is really responsive the back lit keyboard is amazing and is turned on via a button on the upper left of the keyboard and typing on the computer is wonderful. It takes a little getting used to but I really like the feel and it reminds me of a mac, but it is a little less rigid. The mouse pad could be a little better and it could come with less things pre-loaded.

The software is solid and it connected to my wifi without a hitch and the startup was easy but took around 30 minutes to get comfortable with everything. I downloaded chrome right away and then downloaded steam and adobe flash in a couple of minutes. This machine is running fast, I decided to download The Elder Scrolls Online which is 80gigs and this machine is already 50% through in 3 hours. It's been downloading at 3.3 MB/s consistently.

For the price this machine is amazing and I hope it has some longevity to it. I will update if anything goes wrong.

1 YEAR later.... Computer is now making an annoying buzzing sound where the fan is. Because of a lack of longevity 3 stars were taken off.

Best laptop I've had...it's a keeper!

I have had this laptop since Christmas (boyfriend bought it for me), so about 4-5 months at this point, and must say that it is fantastic. The touchscreen is a great feature for a laptop at such a great price, and the keyboard lights up (a wonderful red) which is a huge feature I'm in to. A usual PC session for me includes pulling up Steam, Skype, Facebook, and then some other gaming concoction like World of Warcraft or League of Legends, and everything has been flawless!!!! We are a gaming household so I'm sure part of it is the top tier Internet, but I play with friends all the time and while they may have moments of lagging and freezing to the point where they may need to do a restart, I can confidently say that I never have a need with this laptop.
The one, single thing that annoys me about this laptop, to the point where I need to sometimes restart it, is the audio jack. There is something not connecting right, and it's disappointing that it has the Beats by Dre brand name yet has such a downfall. I can boot up my laptop and play music through the speakers, and it will do fine. But then when I plug in my headphones, a little message will appear in the bottom right hand corner: "audio device plugged in", but I won't be able to hear anything. Unplug the headphones, message says "device unplugged", yet nothing comes out of the speakers. It is the weirdest thing. I have to plug in my headphones before I start up my laptop to use them, and vice versa to use the speakers. That is my only gripe!
