So far, working flawlessly

Size: i3-5010U/ 6GB/ 1TB/ Win 10

Just got this machine. I have installed Malwarebytes anti-virus, Google Chrome, Dashlane for password memory, Office 365, and Classic Shell to get a Windows 7 environment in Windows 10. Every installation went quickly and without a hitch. I also removed a lot of bloatware, but that's typical of all computers.

I didn't expect to be real impressed with the Intel i3 quad core processor, but it is surprisingly fast. And it's all I need; I don't do complicated gaming or video editing. 6 gigs of RAM and a 1 TB hard drive are nice too, for a machine in this price range.

The machine is thin and lightweight. The keyboard took a little getting used to. The keys have a pronounced "click" when you hit them. But they're sensitive, and I'm getting to like them. Can't comment on the touch pad--I always use a mouse.

The only weird thing is that the battery is rather slim and small. I'll come back and report on battery life after I've had it for a while.

This is a great machine for the money. Now, we'll see how long it holds up under daily abuse!

Update: I've been running it on battery for about 1 1/2 hours every morning. The machine says it has almost 4 hours left. So it looks like battery life is a little over 5 hours. I can live with that.

HP for the non enthusiast

Good for price point. Also looked at Toshiba at the same price with 8Gb and 1tb and a decent customer rating. HP had a touch screen 750gb and Windows 10 AND a good track record of customer service which I see lacking on almost every other computer company..
I almost returned this HP wanting an IPS screen but this works fine as a desktop. I'd like HP to make their lettering on keys stand out better as I'm not a touch typist but need visuals. The finish is smudge resistant.
IT JUST WORKS. No "bench testing" here and I have not tried to disassemble it to upgrade it's performance otherwise I'd just get a different laptop, This is a basic home laptop for surfing and paying bills on line with occasional UTube and Amazon shopping of course.
Update 9/4/15. One problem with the DVD player. Needed to reinstall the driver which I found and with HP tech help got it working without a glitch. So my trust that HP would take care of customer service issues paid off. Battery life does well (clips out of the back easily by the way). Still would like it to be a flip or 2 in 1 design but I'll get a 10 inch android tablet soon for easy surfing wiling laying around.

Everything I Was Looking For In A Laptop!

I am not a computer expert or anything, but I do need to say that I really love this laptop! I bought it last week, after having a bad experience with another HP laptop that I couldn't get the wifi to work with.
Here are the things I love about it:
1. The touch screen. This is especially helpful when doing things like watching movies, because you can just push play or stop without having to mess with the mouse. Also, I always have a hard time with the mouse pads that are built into laptops, so I usually use a regular mouse that hooks into the USB port. I find the touchscreen a lot easier to use than the built in mouse, so if I don't have my USB mouse with me, I can use the touchscreen for everything.
2. The speed. The Internet at my house isn't particularly fast, but this new laptop makes a big difference! It also downloads programs very quickly and efficiently.
3. The memory. Most laptops in this price range came with 4 GB, but this came with 6. It also has a 1 TB hard drive. TB! I didn't even know such a thing existed!
4. The CD/DVD drive. A lot of laptops no longer have this, since people tend to download their things directly from the Internet. But it can still come in handy. For instance, when I wanted to make a mix CD for my little nephew, or when I want to view some photos that my aunt gave me on a CD.
5. Windows 10. On my other computer I spent about twelve years trying to figure out how to get my free upgrade of Windows 10, but this laptop came with it already installed. Nice!
6. The size and weight. It is less than 5 pounds, and fits nicely in my small backpack. This was important to me, because I fly to and from my family's house in Chicago a lot, and I like to have my laptop in my carry-on.Read more ›
