I bought this laptop from Best Buy and I fell in love with it. It's an alternative to an HP Envy, I thought, and I'm not really a fan of tablets merging with laptops, so this large-screened laptop is perfect. I'm also going to college in August, and this laptop is very durable, and I feel like I can have this for many years to come. And do not be turned off by the i5 processor, it still runs very fast once you get uninstall a lot of the HP apps this laptop comes with (they are unnecessary anyway), and I actually plan to use it for gaming. This laptop doesn't get hot, and the only concern I really have is that sometimes it makes a beeping noise, but it has almost completely gone away after the first week. It drove me crazy, but now it hardly happens once a day (and I can be on this for hours). Also, the speaker is so loud that when I hooked it up to my television, the sound did not transfer to my television; I set the volume to 50 and it made my entire room as loud as a movie theater with about 5 of my friends inside, and at some points I actually had to put the volume DOWN. Excellent, durable, fast, and easy to use-- what more could a consumer ask for?

I usually buy laptops knowing that I'll need to do some improvements on it. Adding Ram is on the top of that list. 2nd- getting rid of Windows 8 and replacing it with Windows 7, but that's another story. I was so taken by the price of this laptop that I neglected to check how much Ram I could add to it. This laptop only allows for 8, which is fine. I believe once you "up" the Ram, the speed will be just right for everything this laptop advertises. But in this case, I didn't want to be bothered with the extra hassle that HP seems to thrive on when selling their devices to the consumer. It just doesn't make sense.
. So, if you're thinking of buying any laptop with the higher speed processor, make sure it has at least the 8gb Ram right off the bat, because I promise you, if you're only working with 4, by the time you put your Office programs, Itunes or whatever Cloud you sign up for, you're going to see a noticeable difference in speed. Fact.

The only thing more frustrating is their touchpad. It's the stupidest function to date. You press the corner of the touchpad to perform the functions that other laptops have continued to use "buttons" for, like...ever.
Then, you have to spend time trying to figure out just how much pressure to get the thing to work! Sometimes it happens with one press, other times, two, and then there's the more likely where you're pressing it and cursing, till it either works or goes straight to "Not Responding." People have been telling HP about this for YEARS, but they keep churning them out. Fun. Everything else about it is pretty much equal in terms of monitor size, clarity, HDD, etc.Read more ›

Very pleased with speed and screen size. Kinda of heavy, really not designed for travel. If you are looking to replace old desktop computer this is the one for you. I exchanged two IPhone 4's I had laying around the house, and Best buy gave me $200 gift card over black Friday sale. I got this laptop for a little over $200 out of pocket. The 4gb ram is plenty for the average user, not for a gamer. Very pleased does everything I need including playing DVD's. Give this laptop a test drive in store, I just love it!!!

This laptop was delivered with adware, installed in the browsers, that cannot be removed by cleaners or root extractors. It is the most frustrating purchase I have made via Amazon. All attempts to remove this "blight" have been fruitless.

Working theory - HP hates their customers.

Unless you want to have 4gb RAM forever, avoid this laptop.

The process for opening the case up to access the drive and ram is likely beyond 95%+ of possible buyers. If it were not for a video (in german, which I do not speak) showing step by step how to open this type model, I would still have not upgraded the RAM. It is one of the single most involved computer hardware tasks I have done short of full-system builds.

I have owned 2 prior pavillion laptops over the last 6 years, and am dismayed at HP's design change.

edit 3/23/15 - as an added HP 'feature,' the keyboard seems to enjoy counting keystrokes on certain letters as double. s is the worst, followed by x, but many letters double-type routinely. This is with keyboard repeat delay set a VERY long.

I have no problem with the seller but this computer has serious issues. It is LOADED LOADED with spyware, adware and very intrusive pop-ups. It took me 8 hours just to load Firefox and Thunderbird due to the bugs created by this corporate nonsense. While cleaning out the junk the computer gave the black screen of death 3 times. I ran recovery and wiped the disk only to find that ALL of the bugs, spyware, adware and pop-ups were reloaded! I had to run HP recovery twice in addition to the format, and CCleaner, Superspyware, while Macfee slept through the entire thing!!! This should be a legal issue with Microsoft, but who will go there?

Slowed down by extra bloatware.

HP comes with so much bloatware pre installed on it once I got the thing turned on the PC ran super slow. I ended up returning it a day later.
