Well I've been using this new Pavilion for the past month or so, I like it
except, for some reason, I have this PC mainly plugged into a good solid
pair of USB studio Alesis monitor speakers, and I am noticing that I get some
minor media playing dropouts and stuttering whilst playing stuff on YouTube,
or even Spotify Premium. This isn't too great. I know this isn't a $1500
computer, but my previous couple of HPs did not have this issue. Almost
seems like a latency thing. I'm not entirely sure. I'm going to try to bump
up the machine's buffer, if possible, and see if that helps and report back
at a later date. Otherwise, the machine's fine for my purposes but I really
prefer a PC with some good high-end audio performance, no latency issues,
and no browser sluggishness issues. I notice this PC is not really up to
handling multiple apps. or tasks very well, or very quickly.
Again, otherwise, I think it's a good machine, but slow performance
and latency issues and media dropouts are not too great if you're using
the machine for mainly those type of applications. Otherwise, it's quiet,
sleek, thin, not a heavy footprint, keyboard is pretty good, screen is sharp
and nice and large, and setup was easy enough. I think it's overall a good value
for the money, but I guess in future I plan to spend the extra few hundred
or whatever, and get a really high-end multimedia PC, and/or MacBook, etc.

Just got it a week ago from another vendor, It really helped to put AVG stuff on it and take off the McAfee. That speeds it up. Am using Chrome. That speeds it up, also, Am not used to laptops, we also have a desktop that we were fighting over. It does have speed issues, but at the price at WalMart, I'm probably getting a good deal. If I were to do it again, I'd probably go up a couple of notches up in quality and price for my first laptop.

I base my review and rating on expected performance and overall quality for the price.

This is a cheap laptop. HP looks like they cut corners every which way they could while giving it just enough to do what it should. You're not going to play the latest big-title games at even medium settings, if at all. You're not going to edit serious and heavy video. But for basic work and school, it more than suffices. It is slow, but for this class of laptop, it's still acceptable. The HP emblem on the cover is cheap; it looks screen printed. Nonetheless, my model has two USB 2.0 ports and a 3.0 port. The screen is good, keys are comfortable, and touchpad is responsive.

It came with Windows 8, but I bought it strictly for Linux. This is a new system, with a recent video adapter that has limited Linux support. I couldn't get Fedora or Mint installed, but Bodhi Linux hopped on without complaints.

Overall, for the price this is a fair deal. If you're looking for a basic laptop for light work or school work, this should be fine for your needs.

First of all seeing any positive reviews of this laptop makes me not trust amazon reviews. This laptop is horribly slow and it will freeze up. I thought that buying something newer than my old Dell would have been better because all I do is surf the net, youtube, social media, online forums, but I should have done my homework. There are negative reviews of this machine all over the net and plenty of youtube videos of what you can expect from this laptop. I've seen the lack of performance blamed on everything from the processor to the 4gb ram, and windows 8 being a hog. Save your money or live with the frustratingly slow performance. Nothing against HP here either I should have just done my research. I've learned a $300.00 lesson just because the specs look decent doesn't mean they'll work together well.

You ask, HP delivers.
If you're not thinking in gaming and your thing is web browsing, office working, listening to some music or even watch a movie in a decent no-1080-15Gb-hyperHD-3D quality this computer is for you.
Bought it for my father and came up great, specially if you think about the price: 300 bucks is a rocking deal!
Optional-controversial-Protip: Upgrade it with a SSD or even a WD Caviar 2 (120G SSD + 1000G HDD, single drive), that can enhance you loading and booting speeds, but have in mind that your bottleneck is the processor, and you might end up spending 60-70% of the value of the computer in a new hard drive. Choices, choices...
Anyway, it's a great deal for working and studying, and let's face it, if you wanted more firepower you should've spent a few more bucks in a higher profile laptop. What you see is what you get.

Be wary of HP, they perform quite well, but only last one year before the motherboard fails. HP is aware of the problem but does nothing about it. Several repair places specialize in repair/replacing HP motherboards (haven't tried them), but it's expensive. Please peruse the HP support forum and you'll see the lack of support for these poorly designed pc's. I will never buy HP again.
