Great computer,, beats the competition hands down. I bought the Asus for 229$ on sale they had at first, and believe me you DO get what you pay for. Cheap, lousy keys, ethernet port went bad, slow, fan wouldn't work, would idle hot, and the list goes on. So word to the wise, DON'T purchase that laptop. Spend the extra money on this. You get a much faster (better) processor, even though it's a 3rd Generation, really no difference. Don't even bother with the Dual Core Celerons by the way.
Big screen, which is becoming scarce today, it is bulky, but it stays very very cool, and isn't really all that heavy. DVD Burner's are also going the way of the doe doe it seems, very convenient here. Lots of programs you can actually "use". Also this I3 is clocked at 2.6ghz, and has 2 psychical cores, and 2 virtual. So it's nearly as fast as my Core 2 Quad 9400 on my gaming Desktop. So runs really smooth with no lag. Is shiny black on the interior but really doesn't show fingerprints, also the nice silky silver finish on the sides and top also don't show any prints. So overall for the money, "got it when it was on sale for $329, now it's $399, which is still a great price. As I said my only gripe is the speakers aren't quite loud enough, especially for music. A little louder for movies it seems. Not bad, but you have to crank them all the way up to really utilize them well. Also a lot more ports than most computers in this price range, and it's built very solid, good materials, doesn't feel cheap at all. So kudos HP for a great budget laptop, with a large screen.
Btw, I understand every company makes their own "cheap" computers, but the Asus and Toshiba budget laptops are just riddled with problems. People write reviews way to soon, praising them, give them another month. You'll see why you should have spent the extra money. Get this one, it's certainly worth it, and then some.

Pros-

1. Big vibrant screen.
2. Great performance.
3. A lot of hard drive space.
4. Optical drive included.

Cons-

1. Heavy and bulky.
2. Battery life could be better.

In a computer market that has been saturated by tablets and hybrid laptops, regular laptops have become somewhat of an afterthought. As nice as some of those hybrid laptops are they often are expensive or lack some features of traditional laptops. In my time using this HP laptop I have enjoyed a complete product that gives me a great value for my money.

- It packs a 17.3 inch screen. Very nice for working on school projects, watching movies, or just browsing the web. Pretty good resolution at 1600 x 900 resolution. Not top of the line display resolution, but more than enough. I have a Surface Pro 3 right next to it with a resolution of 2160 x 1440 and I can't tell the difference.

- The computer is pretty heavy. At almost 6 and a half pounds, you will feel it. I have been using it more as a desktop replacement at home. It is all right for watching the occasional movie on the couch but not one I want to be carrying around. On your lap though it is fairly comfortable and it doesn't get very hot at all.

- With a 3rd generation Intel Core I3 processor 2.6 Ghz processor you will have no problem handing everyday tasks. The computer is very fast. It turns and it is fully functional in a minute. Opens up program very fast and it is generally very responsive. The experience is very smooth all around. I typically have between 2 or 3 programs running on the background at all times and there is no lag. As long as you install a good antivirus and antimalware you should have no problem handling most programs.

I have had this laptop for 2 weeks now and I would give 6 stars if it possible. Easy
setup and short learning curve. My 1st Windows 8 Computer, but it is not that hard to
convert after 2-3 days. Enjoy the feel of the keys & touchpad.

I am quite pleased with my new HP Pavilion. It arrived quickly and was packaged properly. It is rather large, but not particularly heavy; that is to be somewhat expected of a 17.3" laptop. Even though everything is rather "shiny", fingerprints are not really an issue. The setup was easy, although getting used to Windows 8 took a couple of days. The display is brilliant, the processor is very fast and the laptop is absolutely brand new with its warranty in tact! I would definitely purchase from this seller again.

Great laptop. Bought from Florida Bargains for ten dollars less, including shipping, and got fast shipping, being two states away. The HP Pavilion is a smart choice for those who need a quality laptop. A laptop that does everyday work for the individual and small business. Being on for three solid days, shows no signs of fatigue. Did take some hours to download all the updates and move things around where I like them. You can do the same thing, just take your time and update everything, FIRST... Yes Windows 8 is a little different, but the Windows 8.1 in these laptops have the start button, and makes it easier to transition, if you aren't acquainted with Windows 8. Windows 8 is really faster than Windows 7, even Internet Explorer, and that surprised me. The HP laptop doesn't have a 1080 screen, but does have HD internals, so you can hook-up to your HD-TV or HD monitor, and get full HD satisfaction. Even 3-D looks great. Not being a gamer, I can't produce any on-hands experience of the Gaming aspects, but the Video and video streaming is just great for movies. The four stars says it all, the one star missing is for the placement of the Hard-Drive light, it's on the left front side, so I can't see it working, while sitting normally in front of the machine. Everybody has a pet-peeve. Overall it's a great laptop, to replace that Dell, with the 'Seven Beeps of Death'. In two years, will update on this HP. Thanks for reading.
