I purchased this laptop online through a 3rd party vendor on Amazon. It was brand new when I received it. When buying these kind of items online, I always make sure to read every possible review out there before making a purchase; since I'm a teacher and do not just want to shell out money. All of the reviews out there (that is, online reviews) gave this product fantastic ratings for the price. Because of the specs, and since it was going to be used for music purposes (including recording among other things), I went ahead and took a gamble with it (you never know how things turn out with online purchases).

After spending some time (lots of hours) inputting my musical programs, which among them included 9 dvds of Komplete 9 by Native Instruments, and some other musical programs (mind you that these were all hard copies with very few downloads unless the trustworthy musical website had an upgrade), the laptop crashed! (Wasted hours of my time!). These new laptops do not have recovery disks. You press the ESC key when you turn it back on and it gives you various alternatives. None of which had a past starting point. So it turned out that I had to returned the laptop to its original factory settings. The problem that I encountered was that the laptop would try to do a repair and it couldn't. It would just go into an endless loop. Turning it off and back on, as well as using other alternatives before trying to set it back to its original factory settings were things that I did.

Okay so I told myself: Maybe this is a one time glitch which will not happened again!." Well, lo and behold! The exact problem happened again! By this time, as you can imagine, I was upset.

I wanted a deal, but found myself paying the extra 130.00 to get the read deal (The price has since gone up on this laptop. I guess the word is getting around)

I originally purchased the HP f113dx listed here on Amazon, and returned it two days later. I bought this laptop because it does everything the f113dx claims to do and more. The f113dx comes w/ 4mb RAM, and some would tell you that 8mb is enough for most people, but I hate the limitation that you can't add more if needed. Not to mention that with the small harddrive, the f113dx laptop started slowing down by the 2nd day of my loading required software.
But enough of that. On to the f114dx.

Essentially the same laptop as the other, only instead of the i5 processor, I get the i7, which is much more appreciated.
It comes with 6mb Ram,-nice- and I'm in the process of ordering more.

This laptop has the speed I expected from the f113dx, and it delivers it even with the additional software programs I've since loaded.

Yes, the harddrive is on the low side, but that's okay. It helps me to be selective when it comes to what I put on the laptop. That, and I have a tendency to put important info on USB sticks, so no worries there.

Easy on the eyes, the screen is non-glare, and for me, the keyboard is still the best of all the laptops.

CONS:
1. The Touchpad: I'm just not a fan, never will be, and I'm not alone in this view. The idea of 'pressing' the corners to open items or scroll is a royal pain in the butt, and there is always an irritating moment of delay that can't be remedied in the touchpad settings. If it wasn't so damned irritating, HP advertise it as a feature. I've yet to use an HP that didn't have this downside.

Great computer. Very difficult to locate for such a great price with Intel i7 processor. I originally thought that I would hate system 8.1. I was totally wrong, it is great.

Just arrived two days ago--so a bit early yet--but, so far, a satisfying purchase. Better than the (5!) Dell Inspiron notebooks purchased...and died within a year.
Had to take off a star for Windows 8.1, though. Start screen still a pain in the ***, even when set to boot up to desktop mode. Slightest wrong touch on the mouse (which, by the way, is TOO sensitive!) and the @#$%@!#$ Start screen comes up--and then is a royal pain to get rid of again. Wish there was a way to TOTALLY DISABLE the Start screen.
Notebook itself, however, is VERY nice! Lightweight, quick to boot up, good amount of UPGRADEABLE RAM, DVD drive included.

I purchased what I thought was a brand new computer in April only to have to return it to HP a couple of months later for repair. HP told me that the machine had returned to HP in February for significant memory problems. I'm not sure how this brand new, factory sealed computer (according to Beyond Tech) had a service record with the manufacturer. HP gave me the part number that had been replaced before being returned to the person who sent it in. Should have bought the MacBook Pro I really wanted.

I love this laptop since I have been using it; the only downside is the track pad doesn't have any buttons and it sometimes feels weird to use.
