School has kept me busy recently so I haven't had the time to sit down and publish a review, but I've had my Spectre for a little over a month now and I can honestly say I'm a huge fan of this laptop. A little about me: power user, college of engineering student, and gamer. I grabbed this from Best Buy (i7, 256GB, 8GB RAM, 1080p, etc.) and I can say that this meets all the recommendations that the college mentioned and gets spectacular battery life. Since I've owned it HP has improved it's custom power save setting TWICE through updates. I know, that seems like a low number, but if you look at the way they handle drivers on most consumer laptops very few show updates after it goes to production. All but one of my drivers has been updated since I bought this laptop which means they are still supporting it and making the software better. That in itself should tell you that HP wants this laptop to do well. HP made this for users who are going to need a laptop that lasts and can complete heavy tasks. Let's do a component breakdown:

-Pros-
Quite beautiful even at 1080p. You can go to Best Buy and see it for yourself, but the one thing you cannot do at Best Buy is color calibration which is included in the software on this PC. It refreshes at 60Hz and there is no sign of ghosting at all. It is Pen enabled(!) if you have an HP Active Stylus or (sorry HP) the Dell Venue Pen which several people in Notebook Forum Reviews have said works better with less pressure. I have the Venue Pen (750-AAGN) which has fixed the battery life issue that the early Venue Pens had and doesn't require any pressure. I personally use this for note taking in class with OneNote and it does very well.

I've had the laptop for about 2 weeks and feel ready to share my opinion.

I went into best buy to find a relatively powerful yet portable laptop, since my previous one had a motherboard malfunction.

I went in, set to try out and buy the Lenovo yoga pro 2 or 3, then a friend pointed this one out to me. I took one looked and was captivated by how pretty it is. I loved the clear 1920x1080 display (higher resolutions dont tend to be very compatible with Windows or many program layouts) and the full size HDMI raised an eyebrow.

It feels solid and is pretty light. The aluminum case is beautiful. I've had quite a few compliments from friends who are mac owners and others who have seen the laptop. Some will say it copied off of the mac design, which im sure they considered when designing, but I dont feel like its a rip off.

But the real charm here is the 2-in-1 functionality. I read that HP and Microsoft worked hard and collaborated in the design of the machine, and you can definitely tell. I wasn't a fan of Windows 8.1, it was okay but felt that some of the layout was unnecessary (touch compatibility was in mind there). But then i got this, and it all makes a lot more sense now. It works well in laptop mode where I can be productive, and then on tablet mode the OS works nicely. This is the perfect laptop for 8.1.

The wide touchpad is nice and the keyboard is easy to type on.

I still have to play around with the mic and the webcam, and want to play around with the touc screen a bit more. But I so far love this machine.

I bought this before it was available on Amazon, but would normally only buy this kind of product from this site. With tax included, I paid MORE on HP's site than the price available here on Amazon. I've had a lot of laptops over the years (because I'm an OLD techie), including the best and latest Acer had to offer (weak keyboard and trackpad was not good), and a high end Macbook Air 2013 (under-spec'd, no retina screen, non-touch...lots of dough for what you get...great keyboard and trackpad and a great piece of hardware, so still love it).
However, this is the best laptop I've ever owned and the best looking to boot. I mean, it's premium. I would actually give it 4.5 stars, however, because its trackpad is not first class. The trackpad on the MBA is easily superior, and the trackpad for my iMac desktop puts this one (and virtually every other trackpad) to shame. That is irrelevant to me, however, because as any techie knows, nothing beats a wired mouse for speed, precision, and versatility. That's what I use, and the entire experience with this machine is A level.
Tech sites often but percentage scores (like on a test) on their reviews. This machine is a 95%.

I purchased the Spectre 13t-4000 CTO from Hp.com with the i7 8GB 512SSD QHD configuration

Pros:
+ Trackpad feels/responds just like my MacBook Retina Trackpad. Well done, HP!
+ 4-1 design(Laptop/Tablet/Presentation/Tent)
+ i7/8GB makes this PC fast
+ Aluminum Unibody gives it a solid feel
+ All USB ports are 3.0. No wondering which is which
+ Full HDMI port. No adapter needed.
+ Ample ports that are amazingly designed into this sized PC (3 USB/HDMI/MiniDisplay & SD Card)
+ Webcam has great high resolution when using YouCam app that comes installed
+ Tablet mode has accelerometer so I can enjoy Temple Run and driving games. Kid in me appreciates that.
+ Absence of usual HP bloatware
+ Keyboard is very responsive. Love the chicklet style. The back-lighting works well for me. Was a must have for my next computer.

Cons:
-QHD display knocks battery life to average of 6 hours. Hoped for more, but not a major loss to me.
- Making Recovery media has been difficult. Doesn't work for me
- No memory expansion possible. Glad I got the 8GB config.
- Heat/Vent. After a few hours of work, it's uncomfortable to hold in tablet mode due to very warm air coming from left side vent.

I started out as a PC User. Moved to Mac when MS Vista gave me a final headache/frustration. 7 years later, I'm moving back to PC because I actually like Windows 8.1 and have seen the Windows 10 preview. MS is going in the right direction.

When I started seeing these convertible laptops, I was intrigued as I wanted a new PC and and new Tablet....never thought I would find them both on the same device.
