I bought this HP laptop to replace the last $400 HP laptop I owned which I turned off one day and which never turned back on again. So for longevity I have mixed results with HP (I also experience with them in the office space where longevity was also sometimes an issue), This was the cheapest, smallest laptop at Best Buy for under $400 (it was $399 at the time I bought it there). I needed just a Windows laptop which ran MS Office and could allow me to scan and print the paperwork of my life. I also use it for my personal Internet activity. I also have my work laptop and a Mac Mini that I use for music recording and has all my media files. Therefore the size and flexibility were the important matters to me. I do not need speed and bought this understanding it's not the zippiest laptop on the block.

And it is not fast. I found it to be quite slow for many things. Internet downloads via wireless in particular seem a lot slower than, say, the five year old HP laptop that just died on me. A lot of applications seem to take a lot longer to load than they should. Sometimes when I type some of the letters I am pressing do not get sensed so I end up having to correct a lot of my typing which is frustrating because I am a very fast, very accurate typist with experience going back to manual Remingtons.

It is flexible and convenient, however. I even managed to get a few minutes of game play in before I got bored with the variety of game that will actually run on this. The graphics are acceptable for my use but the resolution is not what you'd get with a bigger or better screen of course.

I notice many people cite the screen being dim. I did not experience this, in fact when using it as a tablet I prefer to turn the screen brightness down a tad.

I don't especially like this laptop - and you'd better check it in person in "offline" store before buy. Beware of "best MWC" sticker - the PC award was given largely based on its $399 tag. If you find out original PC review - this laptop got rather mediocre rating and I cannot agree more. Say - keyboard and body are good and solid. But poor quality screen ruins the whole game - colors are dull and acceptable view angle is limited. Short 4h battery life is worsening impression. That "flip screen" feature looks cool on paper but in this particular implementation is not especially handy - the resulting "sandwich" is too bulk to be comfortable. No way it's substitute to good tablet.

Yikes. I read up on this laptop before I purchased it, and thought that some of the complaints - slow processor, dim screen, etc - wouldn't be an issue for me since this would be a casual-use machine. Not for gaming, or business, just for me for daily use. But they are. They are issues.

* When they say the screen is dim, don't fool yourself into thinking you won't notice. You will. Especially from any angle other than absolutely straight ahead.
* When they say the processor is slow, BELIEVE THEM. I don't care if it's a quad-core. This processor hiccuped doing the most basic tasks, like opening a new browser window or a YouTube video. Oh my God it was unbearable.
* Something I didn't see in a lot of reviews but I need to comment on, are the keyboard and touchpad. They are horrific. I love to type, and I'm a very fast typer. This keyboard is SO low-profile (and small anyway just due to the size of the machine) that typing was both uncomfortable and difficult. After 2 weeks I still wasn't used to it. I thought it was just how 11.6" laptop keyboards are, until I messed around with some other small laptops and realized, nope -- just this one.
The touchpad has a weird texture, almost sticky, and even after messing with all the touchpad settings, was still really unresponsive. Clicking and double-clicking took a surprising amount of pressure. And there is no right mouse button. You just click with two fingers. Not a fan.
* Windows 8.1 is a nightmare. This isn't the laptop's fault, but I still hate it. Honestly, this mess is up there with Vista and Windows ME in terms of OS failures.
* Does Beats by Dre suck in general, or does it just suck when you put it in a small laptop? I don't know, but these speakers are terrible.

I bought it online and and i just got it 1week ago. shipping was so fast and i appreciate it. my Hp pavilion little lap top with touch screen i like it and it works very good, but if you ask me why i didn't gave it 5 stars its because battery is sucks i mean no battery life. I put it on charger all the time after every hour and half, so if you want me to complete that one more star left fix this.

My daughter got this from her company and watched her set it up. Got to use use all it's features and after about 20 minutes I have to say I wanted one for myself. Fast processing, very good video, great sound. The combination of touch screen and excellent keyboard really makes sense. I drop a star in the rating because I think the screen should have higher resolution at this price point.

Purchased at: Best Buy
Suggested by: Sales Associate
Reason for purchase: Geek Squad could not repair my 2 year old Asus and issued a very low credit due to Asus model deletion from system
Recommend: Only as a back up or 2nd device

This is in the yellow light zone. I'm not so confident with this one guys. Looking at the specs I thought it would be a true gem considering the light weight price tag. Compared to other "YOGA" laptop/tablets it has just as much potential. Well, at least the companion text says so. Though it is new it seems outdated. Its almost like a newly evolved pet stegosaurus. Awkward, slow, clunky and resistant. I don't know if there is any way of training it. The resolution is lagging. The screen is dim. Tent mode seems pointless due to the picture looking as if you put the contrast to 100%. Tablet mode is comparable to a cheap Pantech or Coby tablet from 2012. If you've ever tried to help a child with their LEAP PAD ULTRA that would be a good comparison to the touch screen. The keys are on the back during tablet mode and my intuition is telling me that keys will be missing in no time. Something similar to one of those rubber water resistant roll up keyboards would have been a great touch for added security in this department. When putting it into different positions it feels resilient and fragile as if you could break it off the joints at any moment. The speakers are average don't let the hyped up beats label fool you. The internet connection is unstable even with the Ethernet cable plugged it. I have not downloaded at all, not even applications and it has already frozen on me and I have had to start the task manager more than once already. I fear what will happen to performance if I do save documents or download applications.
