this is perfect for the job and is attractive, as well. I had rigged up a similar device using Masonite and scrap lumber, trying different sizes and angles. This is pretty decent, but cracks with age and heat.

Great for keeping the heat off my lap

I had one of these that I bought at an Ikea store several years ago. I love it as it keeps the heat off of my lap. The heat blowing out of my computer caused the plastic to crack eventually so I needed to buy another one and was so grateful I did not have to take a long ride to purchase.

Flawed Design and Very Uncomfortable

I can't think of a worse laptop support/stand/holder design. It's super uncomfortable because of the thin piece of plastic on the back that sits across your lap. The pressure causes pressure marks after only a couple of minutes, and after long enough, it actually becomes painful. Also, it's still angled low enough that if your laptop gets hot, you can feel the heat on your legs because the plastic is so thin. It doesn't provide much of a layer between you and your laptop at all. I tried to rig it so that it had some cushioning strapped under it, but it hasn't helped. I'm going to have to invest in a different one.

It is good. Brings up the laptop a little high where you can still use the keyboard but the laptop comes closer to eye level in most office chair/table combination.
But it is too big and thick to get into backpacks, even the larger backpaks
I wish it was a inch or two less wide

Impulse buy from a visit to that giant box store. It's okay, I have my computer on it right now, and it does the trick of raising it off of the desk a couple of inches, it's secure, and keeps the computer in place in the one piece design. I however paid under three dollars for mine.
