An excellent stand

I was using Twelve South's BookArc but found that it wasn't holding my Retina MacBook Pro 15" very securely (the base of the stand wobbles slightly due to small contact area with the desk) so I wanted a safer solution. The Alubase is excellent as it holds my rMBP securely while having a small footprint.

One small gripe: Just Mobile's promotional images show the MacBooks being docked with the hinge on the bottom, but in my experience, this orientation is terrible. The fans are located near the hinge and therefore having the hinge covered by the AluBase causes the fans to rev up and the laptop to overheat. The correct orientation would be to have the hinges facing up for proper airflow. The BookArc does not exhibit this issue as the raised bottom ensures air flow in any orientation.

*** Edit 3/10/13: The white clip which the laptop is enclosed in is plastic and does not have any kind of rubber padding at all, which means there's a possibility that the aluminum on the MacBook MAY be scratched by the plastic clip after prolonged usage. It would have been much better if Just Mobile had simply added a thin rubber layer to the clip. ***

Simply elegant solution

I have limited desk space and always use my MBPr with an external monitor, speakers, etc. when I am in the office. I looked at other stands, some of which were "prettier" or more artfully sculptural in nature. What I wanted was minimal - that was the point of the exercise after all. After reading the reviews I took a chance with this and it turned out to be the best possible solution I could imagine. Another reviewer mentioned that installing the correct insert was a challenge, but I (who am usually the least handy person on the planet) found it pretty simple and straightforward - slide in the insert and replace the two set screws in the bottom. The laptop is completely stable and out of the way.

Small and sturdy

Love this one... This does a great job holding up the powerbook and has a very small footprint. Because of the small footprint, you can put it almost anywhere. It also comes with two inserts depending on the thickness of the mac you have. I looked at the others, but very happy with this purchase. Looks like an Apple product. Takes up the minimum amount of desk space - I can tuck the powerbook easily behind the monitor which would not be possible with others that are longer. However $50 still seems like a but much.

Probably the best way to store a macbook with the smallest footprint

This is a great way to get my macbook out of the way. This is my 2nd product from Just Mobile and they do design accessories that are the best at matching apple products. I like that this offers two adjustments so that you can store either size macbook securely and I can't imagine it won't fit whatever macbook I buy over the course of time. The only flaw is that it does scuff up the front of my macbook. So far it seems that I can sort of buff it away but it could be improved by lining the interior with something soft to prevent this.

could have extra screws

received product and works as intended and pulling out and putting in macbook air/pro is easy but watch out for the screws at the bottom the are very small and can be lost easily but that being said even with one screw(mistake on my part) very sturdy and holds macbook air/pro very sturdy plus it does look good
