Great bag!

This is a great bag. The leather is thick and soft, and it's all well constructed. Also, the dimensions are a bit larger than indicated on Amazon. The listed dimensions must be for the interior space. Also, when the description notes that it will hold a 15 inch laptop, it is referring to width, not diagonal, as is currently used when discussing laptop size. As a result, my 17 inch (diagonal) laptop fits in this bag. Note that, even though this bag is large, if you also put a 17 inch laptop inside, it's going to get a little tight. That said, the bag is still on the large size, and will fit two or three textbooks without a laptop. It has internal slots for a phone and a few pens.

The leather is great, and should look even better with age. It WILL show scratches, but the more scratches it shows, the more character the bag has. The bag is made of thick, durable leather, so it's a little heavy, even when empty. I'm a bigger guy though, so that's no problem for me.

The bag shipped from China, so it was a bit of a mystery when it was actually going to show up. The estimate was that it would show up in a month, and it came four days later. Also, it was wrapped in several bags and layers of packing tape. When I took the bag out of the packaging, it had a strong chemical smell, likely because it had been packed for so long. A few days of airing out helped a lot, and now it just has a subtle leather smell. You could probably put the bag in a sunny spot for a few hours to speed up that process.

All in all, a bag like this for this price is a steal. There are probably better bags out there, but you're going to pay a bundle for them.

Do not buy this bag.

The leather in the bottom comer ripped about a month after the return date passed and it pulls apart like its paper. I'm not even sure it can be fixed or is worth fixing. do not buy this bag. Even though I've owned the bag for about 8 months I've only used it about 10 times. It sits on my desk the rest of the time. Now its under my desk.

I've been wanting a bag like this but they usually cost hundreds more

For the money this bag cannot be beat. I've been wanting a bag like this but they usually cost hundreds more. The leather is super thick. Good stitching and solid hardware and buckles. The rustic finish of the leather looks great...like you've had the bag for years all the way back to your college days. The only complaint is if you have a lot of accessories there is not a lot of built in compartment storage. I solved this by buying a separate grid it organizer...perfect solution. Get the 9" x 12" grid-it.

Now for the one negative. The cover flap is not wide enough. When you fold it over the top and buckle it closed the cover is a couple inches narrower than the bag... there is one inch on each side of the bag that is not covered. So for example if you get caught in the rain walking from the car to your office, you will get some rain getting through those openings. If you can live with this flaw then it's a great bag...it's too bad because it's such a simple design flaw that could have been accounted for.

Low quality, poor design. Save your money and buy a better quality bag.

I have used this briefcase/bag on a semi-daily basis for about 2 months now.

Pros:
* Inexpensive - about half to one-third the price of higher quality bags
* Looks good (at first) and it made with thick leather
* Did I say it was cheap?

Cons:
* Overall bag is flimsy and cheaply constructed. Yes, the leather is thick but that is where any indication of quality ends. There is no reinforcement in the design of the bag so with just a couple months of intermittent use it has become very bendy and floppy. If you use the shoulder strap the bag bends in a u-shape and looks low-quality. If you carry it by the handle the bag deforms and warps. A proper bag would have reinforcement and stiffening built in to hold its shape but this does not. It just looks cheap.
* The bag liner is low quality and seems thrown-together. The liner is not attached in any way to the exterior/leather of the bag and just flops around. The Velcro strap for the laptop sleeve is too long/loose and could potentially let a laptop slip out of the bag. The nylon material of the liner is of low quality and seems like it will probably experience wear and tear very soon into the life of the bag. The interior pockets have no flaps and there is no way to secure small items in the bag.
* The handle is connected to the lid of the bag with flimsy, un-reinforced leather tabs. With moderate use these tabs will surely break and the handle will break from the bag necessitating a repair
* Outside magazine pocket is not deep enough for an 8.5 x 11 folder or magazine or whatever. It only seems to be about 5 inches deep.Read more ›

Looks nice, but after using for a few weeks

Looks nice, but after using for a few weeks, I noticed that it was staining all of my dress shirts. It has some sort of dye/oil that rubs off and so far it has been impossible to remove from my shirts. It also smells horrible. VERY strong chemical smell. Very disappointing. It's going back.

Great bag

This really is a great bag. I was nervous ordering it because for the last year I have gotten by using a cheap plastic-fiber material bag. It wasn't fancy or stylish but it got the job done, so I didn't really have a clear "need" for this bag. However, it looked so good from the pictures that I had to try it out.

Good :
The leather is very nice
The stitching is great quality, I looked all over the bag and all of the stitching was tight and sealed, no loose threads.
Plenty of internal room, I use a 15.6 inch laptop (probook 4530s) and it fits perfectly in there, any bigger and it would be really tight. I can also fit a binder in with my laptop.
Great buckle and strap quality.

Bad:
The leather looked weird to me at first, but after using it for 2 days and wearing it in everything looks perfect.
I wish the calculator pocket was 1/8 inch wider, It doesn't fit with the case.
I wish the top flapped was as wide as the bag, it leaves about an inch opening on either side. You can still zip close the laptop compartment, but water will still pool on the leather above, so be careful in the rain.

All in all I was prepared to return this bag if I didn't absolutely love it but it really is a great bag and I've already gotten many compliments on it. It goes with a pair of leather shoes (desert boots, oxfords, boat shoes) and a leather belt very nicely.
