We wanted a moderately priced laptop stand to raise up the screens for all the laptops used in our office and tried out a few different products. This one was universally preferred by all our "testers". We have standardized on this model, coupled with a keyboard from Logitech (Deluxe 250 Vista Qualified USB Keyboard - Black). So the entire solution set came in @ about $40/person.
This stand is sturdily constructed and folds down to a compact size that would make it easy to carry around (although that wasn't one of our criteria). It also includes a nifty setting "guide" that tells you which setting to use on the stand, based on the size of your palm!

This is a good stand: sturdy, high angle, good cooling, etc. but be careful. As others have noted, if the front of your laptop is not square, the supporting lip of the stand may not support it or or it will slip as in my case with a Toshiba. There is not much contact area either. The lip incorporated into the support would be mostly useless in any case. Kensington makes another stand with a port replicator that has full support across the base but is not open to provide the much needed cooling. I fail to see the engineering logic here, but make your own decision.

As a business user of a 17" Dell XPS notebook, I needed a stand which allowed the notebook's screen to act as a second monitor next to my 24" main monitor. This entailed finding a stand large and stable enough for this 8 pound monster that took up minimal desk space, allowing the screen to be brought closer to my seated head position. The Kensington Easy Riser notebook stand does an excellent job in this regard. Basically, it is fairly rigid, allows for an adjustable angle of inclination and has a large open back for passive cooling. Additionally, it provides just enough space under the main triangle formed above the desk surface for a 4" person desk fan to provide even further cooling.

Compared to other notebook stands that allow a steep vertical angle between the keyboard and screen (approximately 135 degrees), the Kensington Easy Riser is more simplistic. Unlike these competing products that have a cover over the keyboard, presumably to protect from spills, the Easy Riser is completely open, allowing access the keyboard when my Bluetooth Logitech diNovo Edge keyboard (see review) is not properly communicating with the computer.

Overall, I would say this is a very solid notebook stand that is both simplistic and highly functional. The only modification I would make is the addition of a large lip at the front bottom to hold the notebook more firmly. Also, given the weight of the heaviest notebooks, it could be even more sturdy than its already rigid construction.

Pros
Sturdy and stable
Provides space savings
Very steep angle
Provides excellent passive cooling
Provides space for small desk fan for additional cooling

Cons
No lip on the surface that the notebook rests

This stand performs exactly as I needed. The lock port on my laptop is angled downward for some reason and I had to have it raised up to lock it while at work. Before I just had a large book, but this stand gives plenty of angles and actually makes typing much more comfortable, at a slight angle, with the chair height that I use.

Some added comments due to some questions I've received:

There are four adjustable positions to lock in. There is a knob on the right side that tightens and loosens to four, preset notched positions. A color coded hand chart is given to help choose the best position for your hand size. The angles of each position are as follows:

1) Green - 25 degrees
2) Purple - 34 degrees
3) Red - 42 degrees
4) Orange - 47 degrees

(Measurements were obtained by placing a magnetic protractor on the left side of the stand at each position)

I've had mine set at the lowest (green) position for several months now. The base is quite sturdy for typing; no movement when hammering away at the keys. There are two rubber grips in the front and one long rubber grip in the back that keep the stand held well in place with my four pound laptop on it.

This stand works exactly as advertised...BUT...on the tallest setting (which is what I want) the screen lid on my MB Pro (15") won't open wide enough to allow a good viewing angle. I fixed the problem by putting the front end of the stand on a small shipping carton that's 3.5" high. Inelegant, but it works!

I wanted a notebook stand/riser for a convertible notebook/tablet since I have a Toshiba Tecra M7. At first I wasn't sure which notebook stand would be best since none of them mention tablets nor do they have pictures of them being used with tablets. The only exception is the Cricket, which is not available on amazon, and the sites that do have it, have it at a price substantially more expensive than other stands like the Kensington.

Thought about it very carefully and I realized a few things
1) I needed a notebook stand that is large, or else the computer might see-saw when in portrait mode. For many of the laptop stands I've browsed on amazon, their size dimensions reveal that they are surprisingly small.
2) I needed to make sure the notebook stand is shaped in a way that it will hold the computer in portrait mode.
2) many notebook stands have tabs that stick out in front of the keyword, and are meant to be used with an external keyboard. That is unacceptable.

Anyway I chose the Kensington and I'm glad I did, it turned out to be perfect for my 14 inch Toshiba Tecra M7. The stand is very stable, it's wide, does not wobble even when typing, even when using the pen, even when drawing. The stand does not feel like it will give way under the weight of the computer or my arm, and I can comfortably use the computer as a tablet in both landscape and portrait orientations, and holds the computer evenly even while in portrait mode. The stand is large enough that there is no risk of the computer tipping over. The tab the computer is resting on does not reach higher than the laptop itself and does not touch my wrists. The ability to fold the stand for storage is a plus. The stand also has like 4 height settings, but I have only used the lowest one so far.
