I am using these speakers on an older laptop, powered by Vista 64.

The USB soundbar is compact, nice looking on my black computer, and does NOT cover up my Webcam. It gives a much richer sound than my speakers alone, and I do enjoy using it.

With easily accessible higher and lower power buttons, and a mute button, or it can operate using your computer controls. The USB cord wraps nicely in the back, making it easy to carry inside of your computer case without getting tangled. And no power cord means one less thing to worry about.

You can use it by clipping it onto your laptop (like a clothes pin), or set it on the table next to you (if you are using a computer that can't use it as a clip). The cord is about two feet long, so it reaches the USB on my laptop easily.

According to the specifications, it has a total RMS power of 1W (0.5W x 2) or a peak power of 2W. It also says that it has "neodymium drivers." When Bluerigger contacted me with an offer of a complimentary soundbar to test this for a review, I couldn't help but wonder what the difference was, since I am not an audiophile by any means.

What I discovered is that it means they are run by neodymium magnets, which makes this particular item much LIGHTER than it would be using a traditional magnetic speaker, but it still permits all of the sound. Nice, since I am using mine on the back of my laptop, and I don't have to worry about extra weight. So I am grateful for the sample, which I can easily use.

I did have some problems with getting it set up to work correctly on my Vista computer, since even though my computer recognized it (and installed it), it still played through my computer speakers, even when I chose it as the default.

I bought this as a gift for a friend. His built-in laptop speakers weren't very good. Cranked all the way up you could hardly hear anything. These put out good, very loud sound. At a setting of 3 they were plenty loud... and I think they go up to 50!. They clip right on the screen and stay out of your way. Another reason I chose these was because they get power right from the laptop's USB, which was perfect as the laptop stays stationary and we didn't need another power adapter hogging plug space. Oh, and the price was great!

Outstanding loudspeaker. We use this to hook up to our Apple Mac Book Air and they work great. The original built in speakers for MBA are not very loud and if I am using the using the unit for a presentation, the sound is almost inaudible. Then came these speakers. Now, I had researched speakers that are portable and typically with portable speakers, the sound quality is really bad and weak. Not so with this. The Kinivo LS210 can be loud and the frequency range is full. The 1k range is a little stronger than I would like, but this unit competes just fine against units costing 100's of dollars. In fact, with the absence of the heavy bass, they compete fine again my "Sound Sticks" which where over $200.00. Now don't get me wrong, I would trade one for other. However, if you need great portable speakers that has great breadth of sound and you don't have (and in this economy, who has) a lot of money to spend on portable speakers; this is the one I recommend. Just make sure, once the unit is plugged into your machine that you access the sound properties and tell the machine to use these speakers.

I bought this hoping that I would get a slight improvement over my laptop's built-in speakers. I was very surprised at the sound quality, especially given the low price. I am considering buying another Kinivo sound bar for my desktop at work.

I love the Kinivo laptop speakers. Small, compact and they clip right onto the top of my computer. My laptop has horrible sound, these improve my listening experiences greatly! Small and mighty.

Not bad for the price but USB cord should be a couple inches longer . Major weakness is the clip that holds the speaker to the laptop loses its ability to clamp tight after less than a month of use. The speaker keeps falling off with just a little movement. Needs a stronger spring that doesn't wear out so fast. I fixed it with velcro tape but shouldn't have had to need it.

Sometimes Amazon reviews can be useful. When it comes to albums or movies where everyone has their own view of art, and where people tend to only review things they're already fans of--that's when the review system is at its shakiest. However, when it comes to products such as these speakers, where tech specs and durability and potential flaws are what make the product--that's when the reviews really come in handy. Well, theoretically.
Unfortunately, all too often, the Amazon review system fails in these cases too. This seems to be one of those times. A consensus of a near-perfect 5-star rating for these speakers is simply not right.

I don't think it makes sense to praise laptop speakers simply because they are louder than a standard laptop's built in speakers. No kidding they're louder. Laptop sound is awful. This is like giving a restaurant five stars because they serve something other than Spaghetti-O's. I remember once hearing about a Broadway play titled "Taller Than a Dwarf." I feel like half of the gushing reviews for these speakers should have that title. Hey, let's all give 5 stars to Ishtar because the shifting images and variances in color from pixel to pixel are more interesting than staring at a blank wall.

These speakers are currently listed at over $20. Not expensive, no. But the price is still high enough that I'd expect to have some reasonable control over the volume. Yes, there are volume buttons on top, but there's a huge gap between "off" and "lowest." If you live with someone else, and they're in the next room, they're going to be hearing what you're hearing. You won't have a choice in the matter. It almost feels like the volume buttons are purely cosmetic like the plastic ignition key on a toddler's Fisher Price steering wheel.
