Our previous laptop battery/charger both failed, and we were told by 'an IT guy' that the motherboard was probably fried as well. I took it apart, transferred files from the old HD (thanks, youtube!), decided nothing looked visually out of place on the MoBo, and took the chance on this affordable, well-reviewed battery and a new charger as well.

Sure enough, the laptop booted right up and everything seems to be working. The battery had an initial 65% or so charge. I played with it for an hour or so, and the battery did not get excessively hot. We haven't used it too much since, and we haven't tested it with a more intense gaming or movie-watching session, but so far it's been worth the roughly twenty-five bucks I spent on the experiment.
