I ordered this item and it worked for approximately one month. Today it exploded. My wife plugged it in and heard a pop and saw a spark. Thank goodness the burn mark on the carpet. As others stated it did not look like the picture either. Shame on you Amazon for selling such a dangerous item. I can only imagine the tragedy that would happened if it would have malfunctioned while we were sleeping or not home. Stay away from this item.

I ordered this item at the end of November and it worked fine for 3 months. Now it has stopped working. I just now checked the back of the charger and it said, "for use with compaq and HP notebook products only." The product is advertised for Gateway products. I am very disappointed.

Piece of Crap

There is a reason this charger is only $8.88. You get what you pay for. It worked fine for a couple of months, but then it started to short out. I had to adjust it and bend it certain ways to get to even charge my laptop. And as of yesterday it completely quit working. Also, the black cord opened up and the red and green wires were showing. I don't even know how this happened. I took very good care of the charger. It's just another piece of cheap made in china crap. Another thing.. it is advertised for a Gateway model md7818u, but on the back of the charger it clearly says "Made for Compaq and HP computers ONLY." Don't listen to the positive reviews about this product. I guarantee you they haven't had it long enough to experience the kind of issues most of us are having. Give it a couple months and they will be on here complaining like the rest of us. Do yourself a favor and spend a few extra bucks and get a decent charger. You will end up saving money in the long run.

It worked for just over three months.
During the last month it began getting abnormally hot.
The cord dimensions are: 47" from the wall to the power block, the block is 5" long, and the cord is 56" from the block to the computer, which is pretty short compared to other cords I've had. The block is poorly placed and often is suspended in the air whenever you need to make full use of the length (such as when you may want to use it at a table that is 2 ft away from a power outlet). It's much better to have a block located closer to the wall outlet with extra cord length on the computer side. So yes, the length issue is annoying.
SUMMARY:
I gave it two stars because, as was mentioned in other reviews, it will only last about 3 months, and the cord length is frustrating, but it has a low price, and it can serve to hold you over for a tiny bit if you're planning buying a new computer soon (which would negate the need for a more expensive but long lasting power adapter).

I looked at a number of power cords and paid a little extra for what I thought was a very quality item. Unfortunately it does not fit tightly. I went on vacation and my laptop died. I couldn't figure it out at first and then I noticed that it wasn't getting power. If I pushed it sideways, it started charging. I rigged it so it would be connected without my pushing it. I had to keep checking to make sure it was charging. It should not be this much work!!!
