Good choice for Vostro 1500

My power cord for my Vostro 1500 crapped out on me as they always do, so I frantically ordered this product.

Pros: Unlike most other after-market power cords, this one is 90W so it's perfect for the Vostro 1500 and I do not get any error messages. It has been about 2 weeks since I ordered this, and it seems to work smoothly with my computer, and for the price, I would definitely order this again! I might stock up considering how quickly I go through power cords (I bend them, the plastic breaks, wires break = no more power). Finally, I paid for UPS Ground shipping to get it faster, and the seller took over 24 hours processing time, but I got it quickly.

Downsides: it is a bit short, wish the seller would put the length in the description, I'd say 5-6 feet long which isn't much for a good cord. Also the adapter label does not say it is 90W, so you have to remember for next time. Finally, the connection seems to fit fairly well and hold well in my computer, but it still pops out easily. But that is true even for Dell cords. And the cord itself seems thinner than the Dell cords, I'm not sure if that is good or bad.

Verdict: I would definitely order another! I can't believe I paid $80+ last year for a Dell cord that only lasted me 1 year (they are more expensive and unavailable now from Dell's website), when this one costs $7 + shipping and works well.

Charges your computer but not good for running large programs

Compared to paying 60-80$ on a new cord from the Dell site, I happily paid the price for this cord knowing I wouldn't be taking much of a loss if it didn't work well. When I got it, I was disappointed at how short it is compared to the one that came with my laptop and it doesn't quite reach from the outlet to my bed like my other one did but I could put up with the short length if it worked.

The charger itself is cheap plastic, it feels flimsy and the cord is quite thin, something that might be a problem later down the road with breakage of the wiring inside. It fits pretty well into my computer though and it doesn't fall out like some do which is good. It's a good snug fit.

For charging the computer, I have a Dell Vostro 1015 and it's set up specifically for digital art. I have to run a lot of very large programs on it. I didn't think battery chargers would affect the performance but this one doesn't quite charge my computer as well as the cord that came with it. I get an error message saying the charger is not powerful enough and I can't run my photoshops well at all. I get so much of a lag I might as well forget about drawing and working when I'm using this cord. I thought I had a virus for the longest time and ran all these checks and tune ups and it never made a difference until I switched back to my old cord I had taped up to get it to work if I twist it and not move or bump it if I can get it working. Once that was back in, my PC started running perfectly fine again and I've tried several times after that and this charger really is the problem with my computer's poor performance in running those programs. My regular charger cord for my Dell laptop broke and I needed a replacement and I found this. It was exactly what I was looking for and worked perfectly. No complaints here. It was about $9.00 for the cord which is alittle expensive but I needed it so what can ya do....It was actually cheap about $3.00 and then $6.00 for shipping so I guess that's not too bad. And the shipping is kinda a normal price I guess.

Powers and charges my Dell Vostro 1500

Does exactly what I need it to do - power AND charge my Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. I was looking for a 90 watt charger as that was the wattage of the original dell charger I was replacing. Apparently the 65 watt ones common on this site will power but not charge or cause other problems according to reviewers. This charger doesn't say that it's 90w on the label but it seems to work perfectly so I'm happy, especially considering how inexpensive it was compared to the genuine Dell chargers on the Dell website. I couldn't even find a match for my original charger on the Dell website but I'm glad because that saved me a ton of money. I saw a bunch of other chargers on Amazon that may have worked for my laptop, one even claiming to be a genuine Dell charger (don't believe it) but they were all more expensive. This one is super cheap and works just like my original (I don't get any warnings or errors that other reviewers have complained about other chargers causing). If you've got a Dell Vostro 1500, this is a no-brainer.

It definitely works

I'll compare this to the charger that came with my machine (a Dell Vostro 1015), as I suppose that's the standard it's working toward.

Better:

It's lighter than the factory-shipped charger. Definitely lighter, and the part that plugs into the wall is two-prong instead of grounded, which makes it more convenient in older houses.

Not better:

It's bigger and bulkier and doesn't wrap up as small as the factory-shipped charger. Also, I worry that with the lighter weight I'm also getting weaker electronics inside the adapter. I don't know this, though, so I'm not taking any points off for it.

It's a good charger, though, and I haven't had any problems with it so far. If my old charger weren't still working, I'd have two of these -- one to keep in my backpack and another to keep on my desk.
