Clever design! This product is more of a lock platform than a lock. You need to buy a cable lock (or use one you already have) to use with this product. I ordered this lock as a replacement for the MacLock for my sons new Macbook pro with Retina (13"). (Maclock would not provide replacement keys- I had to look elsewhere and I'm glad I did!) There are not many lock options out there for the new MacBook Pro with retina (since the new models don't have the lock slot anymore).

I am very pleased with this lock. I especially like the fact that you can use your own cable (up to 6mm). I tested this lock with my old MacBook Pro (2008) (15") and tried to 'break it' to test it. I could not slide the laptop off the lock without damaging the laptop- the lock works well!

Pros: strong lock platform, works on different size laptops, you can use your own lock (key or combination), once it is set up once, it is VERY easy to lock and unlock your laptop. (We had to jiggle the key on the MacLock). You can also use this lock on a different size laptop if you choose- not so with the MacLock- if you buy a 15" bracket, you can't use it on a 13" laptop later.

My only con: the laptop lid needs to stay open when locked.

Would absolutely buy again!
If I had to do it over again, I would not buy a MacLock (and save myself $77). And get this lock from the start!

If only Apple added a built in lock for the Mac air..., but that's another issue.

So, this lock works with my daughter's 13 inch Macbook Air. She can finally secure the lap top computer with this lock and a standard cable lock from Sendt (purchased separately). The total cost with the cable lock was just under $50. I can see how this locking system will work with most, if not all, lap top computers.

Pros:
It effectively secures the lap top computer without modifying the computer in any way. No need to install/unscrew anything on the computer. In my opinion, this is the best part of this lock system.

Works with Macbook Air and should also work with all lap tops up to 16 1/2 inches wide.

Unlike the previous model, all ports on the sides of the Mac Air are available.

Simple design & sturdy construction. Easy to use.

Cons:
Ports on the back of the lap tops become completely inaccessible once the lock is installed. This is not a problem for the Mac Air, since there is no ports on the back.

Althought light weight, this probably isn't a lock you want to carry arround unless you really had to, because it's 17 1/4 inches long.

You can't completely close the lap top computer with the lock installed, since the cable runs between the screen and the key board sections.

Not a major complaint, but you have to use the same cable lock that have the Stop installed.

I haven't bought a lock up to this point for my MacBook Air due to the lack of quality options. All of the previously available methods have involved sticking something on or unscrewing the bottom and were all very cumbersome. This one is simple and pretty ingenious. I can finally lock up my MacBook Air safely and easily!

Be aware that it does not include the lock! You need your own lock for a Kensington slot.

Overall, this is a better solution than any other I was able to find for my MacBook Pro Retina Display. I really like that it does not involve screwing/gluing anything to the laptop, jamming something in the hinge, or putting a case on it which disrupts the cooling. Basically it protects your laptop without hurting it. It kind of reminds me of a seatbelt for the laptop. For what you get it's kind of overpriced--just a machined piece of metal and a bolt, so really you're paying for the cleverness of the solution. But given the alternatives, I'm happy to pay to keep my shiny new computer safe and unmarred. Ingenious solution, Snake!

Admittedly I was a little skeptical about how these would keep my library's laptops secure since at first glance, it's a relatively simplistic design. I've found that these are actually pretty legit! I use these alongside Kensington locks as a solution to secure our Macbook Air computers for after school youth programs. A gripe is that you can't really close the lid on the computers as some of the other reviews have mentioned. Also I think that calling these "locks" is also a bit of misnomer as you do need to purchase the Kensington notebook locks in addition to these devices. I also wish these brackets were a little more custom fitted so storage of multiple devices was less cumbersome. Otherwise, this is a great security solution that has served our organization well!

ok... since I only saw 9 reviews I was a little hesitant. but, I thought, what the hell.
It works! It's not elegant. Still mad at Apple for not finding room for a slot. But, it works.
It is big to carry around. Just so happens I have a Thule sling pack that is big enough. But, my other cases are not.

Recommendation. Make 3 sizes: for 13", 15" and 17" You are getting plenty of profit margin.

Very simple but smart design. Could be used with any laptop and especially with MacBooks since they don't have the special port for cable locks. Easy to install. One design flaw though: the protection to tighten the cable can be simply unscrewed and then there is nothing preventing the laptop from being stolen (no need to pick the lock even). It will however scare away a potential thief since this whole operation would take a couple of minutes.
