This is exactly what I was looking for. I carry all kinds of things. Alot more than I really need. But That is no problem with this bag. It also has lots of padding for my laptop. The retractable carry strap is great. The bag has all kinds of pockets. You could carry anything you would need for a laptop. I basically carry an office with me. I also think I look good doing because the bag is beautiful. If you are looking for a laptop bag that can carry more than just the computer you found it. I also think the price is good.

My 17" Dell fits

I have a 17" Dell Precision M4500 and it fits in this thing perfectly. It has plenty of space for the power supply and my power strip. It holds all my other cables and cords as well as my 10-key pad in the front flap. I don't carry much paper with me, but there is a rather large space for documents in the back. All in all, this is a very well thought out case.

If there are any issues with quality, I will update the review.

Solo changed, degraded the design for the same model number (SGB300-4)

I returned this, and Amazon was very good about it. I don't want to be unfair--the item is as advertized. But I was trying to replace the Solo model SGB300-4 (aka SGB3004) that I already had, which is much better. Unlike this one, mine has
- a very handy external cell phone pouch at one end, with a quick release velcro strap to secure the phone.
- a full sized zippered pocket (will fully enclose 8.5 x 11 inch papers) behind the accessories pouches in the front compartment
- a zippered accessory pouch for small items behind one of the open accessory pouches
- three sections in the rear accordion file instead of just two
- A zippered pocket at the rear which is the size of the whole back.
- The rear pocket mentioned above has a second zipper at the bottom, so it can be converted into a sleeve to use on luggage rails.
- a nicer lining, light grey with a printed pattern of the Solo logo
Also, it came with a removable zippered pouch.

Apparently someone bought Solo (at least their logo has changed) and they either sold the old design or are making it under another name. tracked it down at an Amazon sponsored dealer, noted below. Notice it's now made by US Luggage but still has Solo hardware on it (weird).

If you're interested, go to [...] and search for item ULE1019. Costs a bit more ($71), but worth it to me. I can't understand why Solo discontinued this and now offers the current little bastardized imitation as the same model.

UPDATE:
Unfortunately, the bag delivered from Mayfair was not the US Luggage model it listed, but exactly the same Solo bag as from Amazon. Mayfair has now changed their picture and description.Read more ›

Quality has gone down in the last five years and the pictures are misleading

This appears to be only a decent laptop bag but they have changed the way they made the model in the last five years and the photos on Amazon are misleading!

This was a replacement for a bag that appeared to be identical that I bought about five years ago at Staples that was by US Luggage, which I believe is made by SOLO. The zippers on the old bag had finally begun to separate from me over-stuffing it. I was looking for the same bag exactly and this one looked just like it.

This bag is about 1.5" narrower in the laptop compartment, which is going to cause me a problem. The outside seems relatively the same except for smaller, weaker zipper pulls and a flimsier shoulder pad on the strap. My real complaint is that all of the inside dividers are super flimsy. They used to be high quality but now even the strap that holds the computer in place is just thin nylon. It used to be 6" wide leather and nylon straps that velcroed together in the middle.

Of the photos on Amazon, the eighth, ninth and tenth are misleading. They are the old model with the same number. This new model has the thin strap to hold the laptop shown in picture two, not the thick one shown in picture eight. It does not have the outside cell phone pocket shown in nine, or the good quality insider dividers and pockets shown in eight and nine. It does not have the zippered outside pocket to go over a pull handle that is shown in ten, but rather, has a velcroed one.

Over 5 years use

After 5 years of use from daily to office to airplane travel this case is awesome. After 5 years of use I need to replace since I have worn through the handle leather portion and have lost a couple of the pull tabs - held up to a lot of travel and a great value for the $$.

I am ordering a second one and have a little concern of the comments about problems with the retractable smart strap - great feature and I hope my new bag will perform as well as the one I am retiring.
