I got this so I could play WOW and a couple other games on the weekend when I'm not at home. No, this isn't a high end gaming laptop and you aren't going to run games anywhere near max settings. That said, for the price, I'm getting VERY good performance out of this. At least in WOW, it will run really well with almost everything set to high (which is amazing for an integrated GPU). Sure, you can get better performance from a laptop than this, but you have to spend $900 or more. For the price the performance of this thing is amazing.

EDIT: New comments on improving gaming performance, poor battery life, and touchpad glitch added to the end of the review.

I bought this laptop when it was slightly discounted at about $445 for the 1TB hard drive model; perhaps this modest price differential explains my tremendous satisfaction relative to some other reviewers.

Compared to the $1300 Dell laptop I had been using since 2008, this thing is a figurative Rolls Royce. I love everything about it, including some of the elements that others complained about. The rough aluminum around the keyboard and the mesh-like design on the back both strike me as stylish and rugged. The keyboard is brilliantly designed, fitting in a full number pad on the side without being cramped. There are little lights on the caps lock and num lock keys to indicate if they are active. A number of functional keys (e.g. volume up / down) are intuitively labeled and integrated along the top row; they double as the F1 - F12 keys. There are multiple USB ports, including one (?) USB 3.0 port; there's an HDMI port, there's a classic VGA (?) output of the variety traditionally used to connect to projectors and monitors.

In terms of performance, it's lightning-fast for routine productivity / browsing use. I bought it with the intent of using it as a low-end "gaming laptop," and it is about on par with a PS3 for gaming purposes. I've only installed two games, but both are very playable. Far Cry 2, a game that was also released on the PS3, runs perfectly smooth at medium settings and native (>720P) resolution with 2x anti-aliasing enabled.

I actually picked mine up from Fry's, as I was traveling and my laptop died and was beyond saving without some major surgery. I could have overnight shipped it from amazon and still saved money, but instant gratification has its costs and I needed it immediately.

I opted for this laptop as it has the new kaveri A10 AMD APU which is a pretty capable card. No you wont be able to run the newest games on high or even medium settings but they are playable on low. I am able to run CS:GO and SC2 HOTS on near max settings so I am happy. It runs fairly quiet and does not get very hot. It is also much more power efficient, allowing it to use a small power adapter which is handy when traveling. Other good things are that it comes with 8GB of ram which is more than enough for any of your needs, even with the integrated graphics borrowing from the total. 1TB hard drive space is also good, but in my opinion it should really be standard in this day and age.

Downsides are that it does not have 1920 x 1080 resolution, which I find incredibly annoying. The other is that like most computers these days you are forced to use windows 8, which to me seems very unrefined and childish. Overall assuming it lasts a few years this would make a decent deal for anybody not looking to game.

One suggestion, updating to the latest graphics drivers causes some instability, dont do it. I had to roll mine back.

I've had it for a good few weeks now, and the only issue that I have with it is that the track pad kind of spazzes out randomly, which I think it's because I hit a combination of keys and all of a sudden everything I do on the trackpad makes me zoom in on webpages lol. That's really the only issue.

Before I bought this a lot of the reviews I read had complaints about the keyboard and monitor.
For me personally, I love the keyboard just fine. I'm a very fast typer as it is and it does me just fine.
The moniter does seem slightly dull in daytime, but that's to be expected.
The speakers did throw me off at first, I'd say they don't sound as great as my last laptop just because of where these speakers sit but it's not horrible either. (plus I use earbuds half the time so it wouldn't bother me in the first place.)

I bought this computer to fit my gaming needs, and since I didn't have the money for more expenses models, this was the best one I could find for under 500 dollars.

I play World of Warcraft at about medium/some high settings and I range from 30-70 fps just depending on whats going on.
Of course in PVP and raids I'd suggest lowering everything as far as it can go just because those modes are very demanding.

League of Legends is at I believe max settings, except I turned shadows off and sometimes I can get up to 65-70 fps, but it generally stays around the 50-60 area, and sometimes 45 if some crazy stuff is going down.

I tried to push this laptop for some higher up games like Archeage and Warframe, which are a lot more graphically intense.
It runs Warframe on very low but with 50-60 fps, so if you wanted prettier settings and are okay with sacrificing some frames then there's totally some room for that.
