I got this laptop as a birthday present from my wife. She told me to look for a great computer that can help me to write my dissertation, code programs and run computationally complex algorithms.

When I saw this deal I said that was it. I loved it. It is lightweight for a 17 inch laptop which is absolutely a great desktop replacement.

Performance:
I love it. I ran a couple of graphics benchmarks on it and it was giving very satisfying results. It's CPU has got over 8000 points which is very sufficient if you are gaming or doing high computational work. It can take anything you put at it.

I usually don't play too much games on PC but GeForce 860m is also sufficient to play most demanding games from medium to high settings such as Watch Dogs.

Ergonomics:
Keyboard is fun to type but it's funnily small for a big case like this. They used the same keyboard that they used for Y50. Keyboard is still easy to type and I can do programming easily with 17 inch screen. Laptop is lightweight for a 17 inch sized with desktop performance specs.

Display:
I can say the display is not the best aspect of this computer. But having a 17 inch screen with 1080p is definitely better than looking at a 12 inch surface pro 3 when you are programming. Surface Pro 3 has a much better screen with higher resolution and sharpness. But screen is not terrible either. Blacks are not perfect and brightness is OK under sunlight but still you need to push the brightness all the way up. This just kills the battery life by half (about 2hrs). So it is hard to use this laptop outside without a power connection. Having touchscreen is always great especially when playing games and doing web browsing.

I should say the first machine I received was a dud and would not even power up - just the keyboard lit up.

I sent it back and got a second one, and so far so good. The screen is a huge piece of real estate great for programming and web design. It is listed as a gaming machine, but I have not played any games. It is not going to be a good computer for the road warrior type, because it is really large. I think it is surprisingly thin, especially since it has a touch screen. It just barely fit in my laptop backpack.

I got 16g and 500 SSD and boot speeds are very nice and it always snaps to life after being in sleep. I am doing Android App programming on it and for this purpose it is great. The kid loves the touch screen as well for learning games.

The one thing I am still getting used to is the keyboard layout. The Shift key, backspace key, Enter key are all a little smaller and they reverse the location of the function and control key from my last Lenovo. I make a lot of typos and I had to reduce the trackpad sensitivity all the way to keep from it picking up my palm when it moves during typing.

Windows 8.1 take some getting used to, but I like it OK. I can also see why everyone hates it. You have to change a lot of settings to make it work the way you want it to. Especially keeping apps from trying to run everything. I had to change the default program from an app to a program for almost every file type.

No complaints other than the keyboard, but I am sure I will adjust eventually.

Screen is sharp, computer is fast, trying to use cloud services to make up for the smaller hard drive - so far it is working well. Lit up keyboard if great for working in the dark.

When I bought this laptop, the first one they sent me had an issue with the screen where lines would pop up and the screen would flash. I don't know what the issue was, but it was obviously unacceptable. Also, the screen had like a beige tint to it. Subtle, but quite noticeable. Gray's looked beige instead of gray. Tweaking the calibration helped only a tiny bit, but two wrongs do not make a right. Anyway, I contacted Amazon and they told me they would replace the laptop. I received the new laptop, and, while the screen did not have the flashing issue, it still had the beige tint to it. Either I got two faulty laptops, or the screen on this computer sucks. And it pisses me off so much! Screen aside I absolutely love the laptop. It is very well built, touchpad works well for what it is (I personally hate touch pads without the separate buttons on it), the audio really is great for a laptop, and the touch screen worked surprisingly well, even though I hadn't planned on ever using it. I would also like to say the screen, aside from the yellow/green/beige tint, looked nice. I've had a tough time trying to find a nice 17" laptop with superior build quality that I actually like. I saw this and ordered it. But I'm not willing to spend this much money on a laptop only to have a screen that does not show the correct colors. So disappointing. Guess I'll continue on with my search...

P.S. if anyone knows what I'm talking about with this odd beige tint, please let me know what the deal is with it! I'll take my chances on ordering another one of these laptops if I really did get TWO bad ones. This thing would be perfect with that issue aside!
