I have heard all these complaint about Lenovo. Superfish adware. Foreign company. Window 8.1. It goes on and on. I don't get it. This unit is excellent in terms of form/function and excellent in terms of value. My Norton quickly found the Superfish. Easily removed it. The unit reboots in less than 11 seconds. Beautiful screen. I am not a gamer. That's where my vote of confidence should be discounted, but for all others - This a steal. Oh, I read where people claim the touch pad is subpar. Again, I don't get it. I use the arrow keys to move the cursor up and down and can effortlessly use the trackpad to move the cursor around. WiFi connected immediately. Zero drop connections. Windows 8.1 is actually not bad at all. Simply click the square app in the lower left hand corner of the screen and you would think you were within the XP eco system. I am now starting to conclude that customers are becoming way to finicky. Unreasonably demanding when what they should want and what they should need is sitting right in front of them. This is a seriously excellent computer. Finally, it's actually pretty light based on its size. The one issue I do find with it is the unit is huge. It really is. This is a true top tier "budget" desktop PC replacement.

Update: May 16, 2015 - The unit itself is fine for my productivity needs. I am able to do any type of business productive, including excel, video conferencing, webbrowsing, etc. I have had zero drops with my Wifi (I use/connect w/ Comcast's modem).

Some quirks/comments/observations with Windows 8.1: It's actually extremely stabile. It seems the OP system itself as well as Lenovo a program provide within the "bloatware" that came with the unit does all the monitoring to keep the system running smoothly.

This Lenovo laptop is a winner!! I bought it because it was packed with everything I needed including lots of memory, lots of storage, a fast processor, a good graphics card, and a large display. It is a larger laptop from my old 15.6 display HP, and I enjoy having the additional viewing space for working or gaming. Although it is larger, it is actually lighter than my old HP too! It is wide, but not too thick or bulky. The design is smooth and sleek and the feel of the keyboard and touchpad is very nice. The keys are not backlit, but still easy to read. I have not had any issues with overheating from the graphics card yet, so don't think that would be a concern. It runs pretty quiet and handles games well, such as WOW. I would recommend this machine to friends or family :)

Awesome! Very happy with this purchase. Was considering getting an MSI Apache because I wanted a good gaming computer, but the Lenovo Z70 is great with gaming, browsing the web, watching videos, listening to music, using Microsoft Office, and basically everything.

For the money, it is hard to find fault with the Z70. For its size, it is still fairly thin and I love that it has a DVD drive. It exhibits excellent build quality, lots of ports, the fit and finish are good, the keyboard responds well (though layout takes some getting used to) and the screen is great from all but the most extreme viewing angles. The built-in JBL speakers sound pretty good for a laptop. This is the base model Z series, but the i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 840M graphics can handle just about all that you might throw at it. In fact, I'd say that if you are looking for a large Windows laptop to replace your desktop system, this should fit the needs of maybe 80-90% of all users.

Hard core gamers, videographers and graphic designers might want to pay just over a hundred more for the more powerful i7 model with more memory. Also, I prefer my trackpad to be centered below the keyboard (it is a bit to the left here, likely due to the inclusion of the number keypad), but it is responsive and doesn't offer up any problems that I can tell. I wish the hard drive was a bit faster and keyboard layout up to the usual Lenovo high ergonomic standards, but those are small issues when the total package is taken into acount. You may want to add another 8 GB of RAM, but that can be done later if you don't find the performace is quite up to your needs. The standard 8GB should be fine for most users though. The anti-glare screen is great if you use your laptop in well-lit environments or outdoors.

For a 17" Windows laptop, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal. Perhaps the Z70 is not the perfect system, but you're not paying perfect system prices and it checks off most of the right features boxes. This is an excellent laptop that can easily replace a desktop for the needs of many users.
(I tested a friend's unit)

This is a snazzy computer, and it does what I want it to, except for one thing, and everyone needs to know this: It ships with a rootkit. Read here:

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/product_security/lse_bios_notebook

I now have a ton of cleaning to do, and am thinking about wiping Windows and installing Linux to avoid this thing (of course I will use the utility to get rid of the rootkit first), blow the warranty or not. This isn't the first time Lenovo has tried to get information from its customers and spy on them over the last very few months. I found out about the rootkit here: http://bjoernvold.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=3759

Don't mess with a tech, you Lenovo bastards.
