Pros: Good value and lightweight. The all plastic case feels a little cheap after using Samsung Chronos, and Dell Precision Laptops with metal housings, but this didn't cost anywhere near what those models cost and is also much lighter. Screen is bright and keyboard is large and comfortable. Optical drive is a plus since a lot of slimlines are not including them. Battery life is good at 2.5 hours or so for web browsing and regular tasks like data entry, office productivity. Case is matte finish and doesn't show fingerprints or get "slimy" to the touch when using the palmrest or trackpad. The trackpad itself is responsive unlike other brands like ASUS and Samsung. Latest Intel Chipset and Video which is a plus.

Cons: Windows 7 was difficult to get installed because the wifi and Bluetooth drivers offered by Lenovo didn't work. There was another driver that said the system wasn't supported but I cannot remember which one it was. I ended up getting the drivers from Lenovo for the Bluetooth and wifi from my own internet search that came from another model. All other aspects of the W7 downgrade were fine. Change bios to use legacy support worked fine, backed up my W8 key before hand with produkey for reinstall later and made restore discs before the downgrade. Also Intel support was somewhat lacking with this being the newest intel chipset.

First, I must acknowledge that I'm a software engineer that has owned dozens of laptops, built countless custom computers and servers over the years, so I have a significant amount of experience and comfort with computers. However, in this case, the Lenovo G50-80 replaces an aging Acer laptop for my wife. I had upgraded with a Crucial MX100 SSD a year ago to try and get some additional mileage out of it, but it was overdue. Having become a recent convert to Lenovo (via a YLenovo Yoga 2 Pro Convertible Ultrabook), it was my first choice, so I started looking based on that positive experience.

I settled on the G50 primarily on price, and while there are several editions of the G50, I opted for the Intel Core i5 version because in my experience, Intel multi-core CPU's run cooler, and outperform AMD in some key areas that matter to me.

Build Quality: Average for an entry level laptop, the chassis is primarily plastic, and does exhibit some flex at the center of the display. However, in this price point, that is fairly common for a 15.6 laptop.

Performance: Above average, however, I have upgraded the hard drive, and made certain not to retain the default installation of Windows. For a comparison, I have run the Windows Experience Index ( yes, it's still accessible) to compare this machine to my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. They are comparable in most respects, the base score coming in at 5.3.

Software: Below average, this is where Lenovo looses a point. They've loaded these machines with so much unnecessary, and largely unwanted applications as to make the machines terribly slow, and as well publicized, unsecure (google SuperFish).

I have owned several laptops over the years, and this is so far my favorite. From what I can gather, after Lenovo's software snafu this past year, they no longer load any unnecessary software to their computers, and you can pick and choose whether or not you want any particular program. As a result, this computer is extremely fast and responsive. I have added quite a few programs on my own, and it still works wonderfully. I really like the view of the screen -- I prefer reflective over matte. I saw some complaints about the plastic instead of metal feel -- I have had a heavy duty, metal HP laptop in the past, and it was a lug to carry around. Also, I eventually dropped it, and that secure metal casing didn't make a difference. I think I will be less likely to drop this lightweight, breezy piece of machinery. I use this primarily for business, i.e. spreadsheets, accounting program, server, etc. and it fulfills my needs very well.

Good mid level computer, it can handle most common user tasks with ease (movies, doc editing, web browsing), the hardware might feel a bit plasticky, but the materials also make it very light. Overall a nice computer that will fulfill the needs of most common users.

I currently use it for work connecting to servers and managing different joomla sites and I also have a couple of local test environments on XAMPP and so far it has performed well.

It is also worth noting that this laptop falls under the 'signature edition' program that Microsoft has, so it comes with no bloatware and an almost bare bones windows 8.1, which no doubt pays a huge role in getting the most performance out of the components from the get go.

For roughly 430 bucks it is a good bargain since it can be expanded to 16GB of RAM, just remember to run the superfish removal tool right after tou get it out of the box.

Love this laptop. Speedy, boots fast, looks nice, keyboard and layout are near perfect. Not a powerful gaming PC but I was able to get some less demanding games on there for during down time, and these games were on a recent version of the Unreal Engine which is relatively nice looking.
I like the trackpad and the keyboard, and am grateful to still have an optical drive. Also happy to have a USB 3.0 port at this low price point.

PROBLEMS:
Without a doubt, an unacceptable amount of bloatware. I circumvented this issue by using Microsoft's bootable software to reinstall Windows 8.1 as if it were from a retail disk, after taking the Laptop's drivers off of the Lenovo partition (having those drivers on a partition is a nice touch, by the way,) and have removed all bloatware, leaving the laptop as close to perfect as they come. However, feels like I should not have had to do this. Simply stop uninstalling all this junk, Lenovo. Or, put an option for people ordering your laptops to come with or without the bloatware.

Also, the Ethernet port has a strange little annoying cover that doesn't fully open. Kinda weird, but not a real issue.

Other:
Aesthetically speaking, this laptop is beautiful.
