Possible Performance Upgrades

Lenovo's datasheet (http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/lenovo/b-series/b50-45/#tab-tech_specs) shows that 6 different processors can be installed in the B50-45. This unit has the second-to-last processor, in terms of performance. The datasheet also states the unit can manage up to 16GB of DDR3L system memory. Comments elsewhere claim a significant improvement in performance by upgrading from the installed 4GB to 8GB. Other comments claim performance improvement by upgrading the OS to Windows 8.1 (but you'll need an external DVD drive and patience to make that move). Whether Windows 10 can be loaded is unknown to me, but it is supposed to be a free upgrade, whereas Windows 8.1 is not free.

Extremely Slow CPU

I owned this laptop briefly because I found it for $169.99 delivered. This laptop has a fatal flaw, an extremely slow processor. The AMD E1-6010 is literally the slowest processor you can buy in a modern laptop. Unfortunately, there's no way to fix this no matter what you spend trying to upgrade with more RAM or an SSD. The processor is terrible. If you find a good deal on a laptop with an AMD A8 6410 (easy to find in the same price-range), or any i3 laptop buy that instead. Don't trust me, look it up on CPUBenchmark, Notebookcheck, and compare it to other processors on CPU Boss. It's extremely odd that they market this as a business laptop. Sure, it has Windows 10 Pro, and it can handle productivity apps, but it is lousy for any multi-tasking, web surfing, or streaming video. Many programs take what seems forever to open.

Pros:
- Windows 10 Pro
- Nice matte screen

Cons:
- The slowest laptop you will ever own
- You can't fix the AMD E1-6010 processor
- No DVD burner (not a dealbreaker)

If you do keep this laptop get the Windows 10 drivers from the Lenovo website first and store them on a USB drive. Do the Windows 10 upgrade and select "keep nothing" during the upgrade when it asks you about what apps to keep. Ta da! No bloatware. Install only the drivers you need and disable as many services as possible in Windows 10 (Cortana's a resource hog). It will help, but it won't fix the main problem (slow processor).

There's nothing wrong with Lenovo laptops, just this particular model.

This laptop is incredibly slow out of the box. I booted it up and it is at 100%CPU usage. Internet Explorer is timing out and it takes forever everytime I click on something. I'm not sure how to fix this.

And also, it is very BIG in size, which is probably in the description but I couldn't quite visualize it until I have it in hand.

laptop was fine but only had windows 7. it came with disks to upgrade to windows 8 but to my surprise and dismay had no disk drive. How do you use disks to upgrade without a disk drive? I paid too much for this bare bones laptop. I'm not happy.
