First, this particular configuration code (59399853) for the y410p is the one that comes with some key upgrades and one downgrade over other y410p configurations.

The first is that it includes a 24GB M.2 SSD which is used for caching, and after a few reboots makes the boot up time very fast, less than 10 seconds from power to desktop.

Second is that this particular configuration includes an Intel 7260 wireless card instead of the 2200 series centrino on the other models. It's an excellent performing adapter but only capable of 2.4GHz which is one of the only drawbacks of this laptop overall.

Third is that this configuration code includes the 1600x900 LCD instead of the 1366x768 that the cheapest variety of y410p includes. While the screen is sharper and better it's still of a pretty low quality overall. It's a glossy TN panel with poor vertical angles.

The downgrade would be that this model includes a 62 Watt hour battery while some other configurations come with a 72 Watt hour battery, making a system that already has pretty short battery life even shorter.

Now on to the meat of things.

First the CPU in this (i7 4700MQ) is one of the fastest mobile processors you can get, only the i7 with the 128megs of onboard cache for the iris graphics is better. The graphics adapter is also excellent, the Geforce 755m can handle most games at the resolution this laptop runs at at middle or high graphic settings.

However, there is a problem. This laptop is pretty small and light, and between the CPU and the GPU the TDPs combine to hit 95 watts (45watt CPU, 50watt GPU), which is a LOT of possible heat to dissipate in such a small chassis. In addition both adapters share the same single cooling fan and vent.

Verified Purchase
Everything I expected and more. I bought this laptop for everyday business travel and to do intermediate gaming. League of Legends runs on high setting with no problem. So far no problems

I'm not a tecky ,just an avid user that loves to keep track of my finances and buy things online & Google things.I now have 6 computers an IMac ,2 netbooks, desktop & now 2 laptops. All are Win 7's except this one which is Win 8.1.I got Windows 8 for dummies for Xmas but was making a lot of headway without the "how to" First the negatives ,the keyboard is the worst for fingerprints almost to the point were I say ugh so gross .Next there are sharp edges on front & back ,you could cut yourself ,for a 14" a little on the heavy side ,that's all .The rest is positive it is reasonably fast but not as fast as expected ,I love the backlit keys ,the sound is great ,the screen throws off a nice clear picture .I have set up the start menu as I wanted not too hard ,my desktop is taking shape and I have installed Quicken ,Office 2010.I am very pleased ,actually I wasn't looking to buy a computer after all I would think 5 was enough ,but was scrolling through Amazon looking at reviews of the Asus T100 that was such a disaster for me .I spotted a link to the Lenovo site once there they were having a sale $570 off till Dec 25th ,I couldn't resist so for $772 I bought this great computer.Since it's winter time I will have some fun mastering Windows 8.1 and I'm not that critical of it ,maybe because I didn't get 8.0 which I hear is bad .You cant go wrong with this computer ,and BTW I'm not having an issue with the wireless card ,I have Fios with their Actiontec a G router ,so I'm pleased .

One interesting thing I installed Malwarebytes that was the second day I bought this computer .It removed 137 threats ,two days later after installing Office 2010 ,it removed another 97 threats .Hard to believe I tried Decrapifier and was pleased to find out I had nothing to remove .

UPDATE:

Customer support cleared up my problem on the first call. First person I talked to. Perhaps I was just lucky, but that's the best service I have received from a computer customer support line.

I haven't had any Wifi trouble since then. It appears that when I uninstalled McAfee Antivirus (to replace it with AVG), I did not correctly uninstall it. Uninstalling it from the Control Panel is not enough, you have to run a special McAfee removal program.

This laptop is not perfect, but it's as close as I could expect for the price.

I wish the screen were better, and the trackpad is a bit touchy, but for the price I couldn't ask for more.

ORIGINAL REVIEW (3/5):

For the price, it's a pretty good system.

I would give 4 or 5 stars, except that the Wifi has never worked correctly. I know it's a common problem, and some have had success fixing it. No luck for me though: the connection still drops every so often.

I bought this laptop about a week ago and I am actually considering returning or if possible asking for a replacement that solves my issues. As far as ratings let's get into it by listing the Pros and Cons

**List of Pros**

Gaming performance 4/5
So far one the games I've tried, this machine has performed like a champ. No real complaints here. Also, considering I'm upgrading from a 5 year old laptop, this machine is greater than anything I have ever experienced.

Battery life 3/5
I guess this could be both a pro and a con for this laptop as the time that the battery lasts really depends on what you are doing at the time. If you are just doing schoolwork, the battery could potentially last up to 4 hours. If you are playing games, it will last about an hour at the most. Still, this is much better than my previous laptop so big points for that.

Camera 4/5
The 720p cam
era on this laptop is decent, but much better than what I am used to. The images are grainy, however the is no lag on the camera. I guess for most people this might me a problem, but it is good enough for me.

Windows 8.1 4/5
I think windows 8.1 is one of those things that can be considered both a pro and a con. There are a lot of things I miss about windows 7, but let's face it, Windows 8.1 is much more efficient at both gaming and energy consumption. However, I hate that damned Metro interface, especially since this isn't a touchscreen computer.

"Ultrabay" ??/5
I know this is definitely a pro, but it seems that Lenovo isn't really offering readily accessible Ultrabay accessories so i'm not 100% sure if i'll be able to add another graphics card or not.
