So i have use the laptop for about 7 week now and here's what i have to say.

I have used Thinkpads before, specifically x220 and another model which i can't remember. I trust Thinkpads because of their built quality and design choices. It looks like Lenovo has done something right with this E550 model.

This laptop is preloaded with Windows 7 Pro 64bit with some of Lenovo's programs. I immediately did a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and got everything set up in around 3 hours. It took me that long because i couldn't find the chipset driver on Lenovo's website at first. But after looking around i found a "show more" button under the drivers list. I'm a noob guys XD.

The built is very sturdy and rigid. It is not an ultrabook so don't expect any "thin and light". It weights at around 5.2lbs and mesures around 1.06in (According to Lenovo's specsheet). The machine has virtually no keyboard flex, slight screen flex, and an all around matte black finish. It has VGA and HDMI (1.4 i believe. Please correct me if i'm wrong) ports along with 2 USB 3.0, 1 USB 2.0, gigabit Ethernet port, Onelink port and charging port. The 720p camera and mics array give me greate experience on Hangouts. Here are the surprises. It has a CD/DVD drive and an upward facing dual stereo speaker system. The speakers sits right above the keyboard and has very decent sound quality. The keyboard is very good to type with. By default, the F keys are replace by the functions keys, such as volume and brightness controls, but the Fn key can be turned to "Lock" by pressing Fn+ESC keys to have the F keys function as normal. Also, Trackpoint is present, and Trackpad is a matte finished surface with clickpad and 3 separate mouse buttons (Left, Middle, Right).

This computer is great. There are actually 2 graphics cards on board. The integrated Intel HD 5500, and the AMD r7 m265 (not the m260). The M265 is a superior graphics card to the m260 with 32 GB of bandwidth. I just checked the settings on the laptop, I have no Idea why everyone is advertising the graphics cards as a m260. Also the track pad is amazing and intuitive. There are hot keys overlaid on top of the classic useless F keys. They have a Calculator hot key which is amazing (we all know how often we use the calc), a hot key for Locking the comp, a hot key for CONTROL PANEL (amazing) and a hot key for COMPUTER to access the HDD. Really nice keyboard and trackpad and the fingerprint unlock is really cool and works flawlessly.

This is a great buy tremendous value. I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone!

When you buy it make sure that you check the model number on the box. Make sure it's the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E550 20DF0040US. I was sent the 20DF0030US which is a downgraded version. The seller did send the correct model. Run CPU-Z on it and that will tell you everything that is in the machine. This actually a very good deal and is sold on the Lenovo website for over $900.

Great deal - an excellent value. i7 (dual, not quad core) CPU, 8Gb RAM, 1080p screen.

And, it actually has a network port, and an optical drive. I'm happy I was able to find a laptop with those features. (You can keep your fancy thin laptops that don't have a DVD drive, can only connect using wireless, and have tiny-a** screens - they're not for me)

Keyboard has a numeric keypad.

No touchscreen - for me, that is not something I will miss.

Old-school style laptop - which means the battery is replaceable when or if it deteriorates, you can add RAM easily, and the hard drive can be replaced/upgraded.

I do wish that it had a lit keyboard like some of the higher-end Lenovo's though.

(For those looking to change the hard drive to a fast SSD, it's a regular 2.5" size)

I’ve been using this laptop for a few days now and I can safely say this was a great buy. The quad-core processor is fast and efficient, handling whatever tasks I demand of it from internet browsing to word processing. However, I have yet to test its gaming potential. This laptop comes preinstalled with a trial of Microsoft Office and McAfee Internet Security, which is nice, as well as a host of Lenovo specific programs such as a battery power manager, diagnostic tool, and fingerprint scanning. One thing to note are the function keys, which are inverted by default (e.g. pressing F5 results in decreasing the brightness instead of a refresh). Thankfully, this can be changed by holding the function key and pressing escape. The touchpad is a little spotty and occasionally registers double clicks when I’m only moving the cursor, but it works decent enough.
That’s not to say this laptop isn’t free of flaws. I did not receive my upgrade to Windows 8 or any installation disk to do so. But considering that the free upgrade to Windows 10 is currently available to any machine running Windows 7 or 8, I’m not upset. One big problem I have with this laptop is its battery life. According to the technical details on Amazon this laptop is supposed to have 9 hours of battery life. That’s untrue. This laptop has never registered more than 4 hours according to the notification panel nor has the power management tool Lenovo provides provided any solace. In fact, the battery life tends to sporadically jump. Thirty minutes ago the notification panel claimed there were 55 minutes remaining and now its claiming there’s an hour and 21 minutes remaining. How is that possible?
