I did a lot of research on ultrabooks before purchasing this exact model. I am very happy with the build quality and system performance. The keyboard is excellent (laid out like a real keyboard, don't buy X1 2nd generation) and the audio is better than you will find in any other ultrabook. I selected the standard 1080 HD resolution after learning that the QHD is only supported by Windows 8. The display is fantastic: viewing angle, speed, colour are top notch. I replaced Windows7 with Ubuntu 14.04 with only two minor issues: TrackPad button mapping and screen back light control (very simple fixes). All other features (camera, mic, wireless, LAN, keyboard back light, Bluetooth, TrackPad and TrackPointer, USB, microSD, audio) work out of the box with Ubuntu 14.04. I originally ordered this model through Lenovo but had to cancel due to delivery delay. Lenovo customer support was very good and the order was cancelled at no cost to me even though unit was in manufacturing. This unit did not come with physical restore medium. I called Lenovo and they shipped the disks no charge very quickly. I see no issue with Lenovo support.

Edit: I have added two screen shots for user Richard N. Barg to show the difference between 1920x1080 and 1360x768 resolution. No changes to OS settings were made other than monitor resolution.

I used to be a Lenovo fan when it comes to their higher end products. They performed well and used to be rock solid machines. I decided to finally upgrade my 5 years old laptop to this one after so many raving reviews and how Lenovo listened to the fans and fixed various things from 2nd Gen. Unfortunately, the purchase of this machine has became my biggest nightmare. Roughly after the return period was up, the machine started to develop several issues. One is that a few, bright, stuck pixels started to develop on the screen.

Secondly, which is the show stopper, is that most of the time, when the machine wakes up from sleep one of the two issues would occur. Either 1) the whole machine freezes with gray lines running across the whole screen or 2) the screen starts to flicker non-stop. At first, a reboot would fix the issue. Then, slowly, it got worse over time - trying to hard reboot while the screen is frozen actually just brings it back frozen. The support is a joke. I opened a ticket hoping to get the machine serviced two weeks ago. I never heard back from Lenovo. Posting on their forum got me no where except I found other people having the same issue. In fact, one guy said he waited a month to finally got the motherboard of his laptop replaced but he continues to have the same problem. Forget about trying to call their support line, which is incredible hard to navigate through their site to find. Last time I sat on the line for 45 minutes and didn't get anyone before I had to leave.

The last draw for me is that I attempted to post a review of the product on Lenovo's site. I still mentioned the great physical design of the machine, because it is, but gave it a low score for product reliability. That review was immediately rejected. Needless to say, I will not give them a single dime in the future and I urge everyone else to do the same. I'm really not an Apple person but this has made me rethink about it simply because getting support is far easier there.

This is a nice computer with a light weight. Everything is fine - except that the wireless network disconnected from time to time. It bothered me a lot, but I finally found the reason and solve the problem. It was because the wireless network drive on this computer was old version and need to be updated. To do so I installed the Intel Driver Update Utility and it helped me update the driver to the newest version. Now the network connection is stable.

This is exactly the product I'm looking for. I love its appearance and texture. It's thin and light, and it runs and charges really fast (within an hour). I had my concerns before actually seeing it because of those negative reviews, including the adaptive keyboard and the fact that it breaks down right after several days' use. When I started to use it, I found no such problems. The adaptive keyboard is great, although the split Backspace/Delete button does take some time to get used to; and it runs just fine, no breakdown or any other quality problems.
So for me who is tired of all the Apple products at home, the Thinkpad X1 Carbon is great.

1 star rating here is purely for warranty reasons. The site where I purchased it - Laptop Deals and More use FALSE ADVERTIZEMENT when they post 3 years on the product page: "Warranty, Labor: 3-year Lenovo Depot warranty (parts and labor)".

That it simply a lie. Upon arrival I checked the warranty on the app provided on the laptop, and it shows 1 year. I then called Lenovo and they told me literally this: "Only laptops purchased via Lenovo site directly carry 3 years warranty. Resellers only sell with 1 year warranty. If you want three years you MUST PURCHASE EXTENDED warranty". Needless to say, that's quiet a chunk of money.

Want to say a good word about Amazon people. I called with the complaint and they offered me 100% refund based on obvious misinformation by the seller, despite the fact that I was not eligible for 100% refund based on the sales conditions (everything was working and the laptop is obviously not in resellable condition anymore).

So this post is a warning for other purchasers: confirm the warranty before you buy.

And here is my impressions of the laptop: it is every bit as good as other people are saying. I've used it for about a week, and besides a pretty basic screen and so-so trackpad (both about 50 years behind of MackBook standards), it works very nicely. I really like fingerprint sensor and the Leno software that comes with it. It's dead silent, featherweight and the keyboard is surprisingly good. I don't like the poor viewing angles of the display, it loses contrast pretty quickly when tilted, the contrast of black font on white background is just very mediocre. it's OK for work, but in today's age I expected better.
