This computer is nothing less than money well spent. After opening up the box I took the liberty of stripping out most of the unnecessary bloatware that came installed by default from Lenovo. There are a few things that may cause some irritation for folks so I'll give you the rundown of what I have no absolutely loved:

First, the trackpad. Sensitivity is spotty sometimes compared to my HP Pavilion dv6 and Macbook Pro (which both cost more than 3 times as much as the Thinkpad). However, this can be remedied with the purchase of a cheap wireless mouse if you wish. Luckily, I have developed a proficiency with the pointing stick (red dot located between G, H, and B keys) which is especially useful in combination with the three mouse buttons located just above the trackpad. The trackpad itself can be pressed in to achieve left and right clicking functionality, but there is no middle click button on the trackpad, only above it.

Second, the RAM (random access memory). This Thinkpad comes with 4 gigabytes of RAM. RAM essentially dictates how many processes can run concurrently on the machine. 4 gigabytes will allow you to browse the web with multiple windows or tabs open without much impact to performance, but if you are using your machine for some heavier software I would suggest purchasing an additional 4 gigabyte RAM stick and installing it on your own. If you do not know how to install RAM, Google it! The process is simple and worth while. Just make sure you are getting RAM sticks designed for a laptop and not a desktop. You are looking for a DDR3 type RAM stick.

Third, the WiFi. I have read the reviews stating that poor WiFi makes this machine completely obsolete.

This little laptop is a beast for its size and price. I decided to follow the advice of another reviewer and buy the 4gb upgrade. Im glad I did because with only the stock 4gigs, it becomes sluggish with 3-4 programs running. With 8 gigs, the laptop feels very quick. The installation took 2 minutes and is easy enough for a child to perform. Another great thing is the fact that it came with windows 7, and the upgrade to Windows 8 IF YOU WANT IT. This was great because I cant stand Windows 8.

PROS
Great value.
8+ Hours battery life.
Laptop itself feels beefy and doesn't creek or bend.
Good size / Keyboard is comfortable to use.
Bright Screen / Loud Speakers
Very capable with inexpensive upgrade.
Windows 8 option.
Lots of USB real estate.
Shipped fast.

CONS
Screen is unimpressive.
Annoying Green and red LEDs on top of the lid.
Microphone is right where your palm goes.

Overall this laptop is great. As a commuting grad student I was most concerned with the keyboard, battery life, and multitasking performance. This devise fits exactly what I need.

UPDATE (1.4.2015)

I recently upgraded to a solid state drive (90 GB Kingston). The boot time from fully off to login screen is about 6 seconds (rough estimate, but it was very snappy). Word and excel both take about half the time to start since the upgrade.

Mostly I have been impressed with the build quality of the laptop but the touch pad is about what you would expect from an inexpensive laptop. If this was a more expensive laptop I would take a star, but the deal is still 5 star range.

I bought that laptop 2 month ago and upgraded the memory and got an SSD. Everything worked just fine a long time. But all of a sudden it started to tell me that my license key is not genuine anymore.

I called Microsoft and asked them what is wrong with that key and they told me that this "Lenovo OEM key" got blocked by Lenovo itself. The only way to resolve that would be to call Lenovo. So I did....

The first women in support told me that my OS was just pre-installed but the license key still owned by Lenovo. I was technically not allowed to use the system since it was "not part of the package"????
So...She offered me three possibilities what she could do:
1. I can buy a new license directly from Lenovo ...
2. I can buy a recovery CD (that laptop hasn't even a CD drive)...
3. Purchase a Lenovo Premium Support Warranty to talk to a real technician...

I told them that I was not willing to spend money on something they messed up and we continued arguing....
Eventually they transferred me 3 more time until I ended up with a technician on the line.
After I described him the issue with my Windows 7 Key he agreed to remote in to check on that ... but he seemed pretty surprised that I had Windows 7 on it (??? I just told him) and recommended to upgrade to Windows 8 (damn no - it came with Windows 7...)...

After talking some more minutes he figured out that this was actually a Thinkpad and said that he was not responsible for that and need to transfer me.... So he did ... to the very beginning (he just transferred me to the number I called first...)

So I still have no working license and no-body seems responsible for that...
That service was actually the worst I ever experienced ... they just collected my data (Name, Phone, Address...etc) 4 times!!!! and tried to sell me all kinds of unnecessary stuff - but did not solve my problem!

...took me bdw more that an hour...
