I'm a computer engineer and I see quite a bit of hardware on the day to day and this laptop performs. It's equipped with a R9 M275 that is based on the older 8870M architecture (It would be a 8890m if one existed). Gaming performance is acceptable for any new title with little sacrifice to the graphics presets provided your gaming at 720p or 900p. This is not to say gaming isn't possible at it's native resolution but you'll be limited to medium settings for most graphic intensive titles. With the ULV I7-4510u processor this system will be bottle necked by the GPU way before games start to tax the CPU. It is a dual core processor but it's feature set and boost ability will rarely slow you down for day to day multitasking. The screen is limited by it's contrast and viewing angles but one can be purchased that vastly improves both (B140HAN01.2). Sound is above average for a small laptop but don't let the Dolby or JBL label boost your expectations. All in all a good purchase and way better than some of these reviews I'm reading. I read in a lot of reviews here about poor performance but I'm guessing some users aren't familiar with AMD's switchable graphics.

I just got my Y40 today and it is the best notebook I've ever owned so far. It ripped through Skyrim and Payday 2 with ease and even with some mods. The WiFi is fantastic because of the updated Intel dual band and the 1080 display is crisp and clean. The weight is very nice and even though it is only 14" it feels like more. I would definitely recommend this to any laptop gamer or anyone who just needs a lot of power in a small package.

So far I'm fairly happy with this laptop. I had zero problem getting things set up, and for being a 44 year old mom who isn't very tech savvy, that's saying something. I mostly use the internet and sometimes let my youngest daughter play Minecraft or other games on my computer. Sometimes my older kids will use my computer instead of theirs for homework assignments. I find Windows 8 cumbersome, but I'm not used to it yet. The *only* real problem I have is that the colors are extremely washed out and drab. When I went out looking for more technical reviews, this seems to be a common complaint about this laptop. Considering that most of what I do is look at text and pictures, this may be a deal breaker and I may wind up returning it for that reason only. I have attached a picture to show the difference between my old desktop and this laptop. My brightness is up all the way, and I haven't found another setting to change the contrast or any other parameters that might help. I will probably call their support number and see if I'm missing something.

I don't know why they would say anything bad about the display. This is a great machine. Real fast! I am a long time buyer and love this one. You can't go wrong.

Had this product for a few days and am highly satisfied. I was very skeptical due to the VERY mixed reviews, and on top of that I've never owned a Lenovo product. Saying that, I was EXTREMELY impressed with the build quality of the laptop. It was very sturdy, and doesn't feel at all cheap. It feels like an ultrabook. Performance was very good. The only game I've really tried so far has been Borderlands 2, which I could play on high graphic settings at a perfectly playable fps @ 1080p. Now the most common complaint I've seen across the board was the crappy screen. I will admit, the colors seem very washed out. However, if you go into the Intel graphics properties you can adjust the color saturation. If you bump up the color saturation and slightly bring the gamma down, the colors will pop ALOT more. I'm not saying it makes the display absolutely gorgeous, but it improves it a lot. The matte finish on the display makes it very good for gaming and for any extended periods of time viewing it. My only real complaint is that the spacebar isn't very sensitive. You will find yourself typing and looking up noticing that you didn't type a space and your words run together. Not a huge deal, you just have to make sure you firmly touch the spacebar, For the price, this is probably your best choice for very portable gaming and really anything if your on a budget. The i7 is only a dual core but gets the job done, and the radeon r9 graphics are underrated, They have exceeded my expectations! Overall, great value.

Pros-
Awesome exterior quality with fancy, yet subtle looks
Lots of power for the price (does well in games and any other tasks)
1080p screen resolution
3 USB ports, including one specifically made for phone charging
14in in my opinion is the perfect size

Cons-
Washed out screen (fixable)
No disc drive
Spacebar doesn't work to well (not a huge deal)

Excellent multimedia laptop. Runs very cool although as other have stated colors do not "pop", detail is HD quality. Gaming is good depending on how demanding titles are. Skyrim, Minecraft etc... all run smoothly and glitch free, Wow and many newer more demanding games will cause slower frame rates and buyer will probably not be happy.

I got this laptop directly from Lenovo.com, the only difference is mine comes with 256GB SSD instead of the regular hard disk drive.

What I love about this laptop is the design and style - it really emanates luxury gaming and sophistication. The design rather reminds me of Lamborghini. From the way the screen is un-attached at the edges to resemble the car hood, to the stereo speakers looking like headlamps, to the matte carbon fiber black and red look of the shell, the inside, and the keyboards - this laptop oozes style and powerful sophistication.

The next thing you'll notice is how compact and light it is for a gaming laptop. While other beasts tip the scales at nearly(or over!) 10 pounds, this svelte beauty is only 5 pounds. It is really portable, so you can easily throw it in your backpack and use it as your travel laptop as well.

Battery life is rated at up to 5 hours, but I'm pretty sure that's only possible if you set everything to minimum. I'm betting you'll get around 3 hours of normal usage, and probably up to 2 hours of gaming.

The screen is above average - it is not a TFT or IPS panel, so you won't get the best brightness and viewing angles, but it is better than most cheap laptops under $500. One good thing is the 1080p resolution, so text and other things are nice and sharp.

The JBL speakers are quite good and immersive, and does a good job of providing stereoscopic sound effects. They can get quite loud and provide a decent sound stage, which is a welcome change over tinny cheap speakers of most laptops.

Performance-wise, this thing screams in everyday computing. The Intel i7-4510U processor and 8 GB of RAM scream through most everyday tasks. I use Photoshop CS6 with it with no issues or lag.
